About the RoleWe are looking for a hands-on Photonics Engineer to support the design, assembly, integration, testing and field deployment of advanced photonic sensing systems. This is not a purely theoretical or simulation-focused role. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working directly with optical, fiber, laser, electronic and data-acquisition hardware, and should enjoy taking experimental systems from concept through assembly, calibration, troubleshooting and validation. The role combines engineering analysis with practical laboratory and technician-level responsibilities and is suited to someone who enjoys building and testing real hardware.

Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be expected to:
• Translate technical requirements into practical optical, mechanical, electronic and test configurations.




• Support the design and development of photonic sensor prototypes, subsystems and laboratory test benches.
• Prepare test plans and define measurable performance parameters.
• Conduct systematic optical and electronic experiments.
• Analyse optical and electronic signals and identify performance limitations.
• Troubleshoot alignment, coupling, signal loss, detector, noise, power-supply, interface and data-acquisition problems.
• Work with senior researchers to convert research concepts into reproducible engineering prototypes.
• Assemble, align, integrate and test optical, fiber, laser, sensor and electronic components.
• Clean, inspect, terminate, splice and manage optical fibers and connectors.
• Mount sensors and optical components and perform basic wiring, soldering, connectorization and cable management.
• Operate laboratory instruments, record measurements and perform routine calibration.
