Job Summary
The Electrical Supervisor will be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment in the plant and of the plants power supply system, from the incoming HT/LT supply, transformer and DG set up to the motors and drives of every machine. The aim is to keep breakdowns and power-related downtime to a minimum, control power cost per tonne of pellets, and ensure full compliance with electrical safety rules.
Key Responsibilities
A. Power Supply System
1. Operate and maintain the incoming power supply system, including HT/LT switchgear, transformer, main LT panel, metering, cabling and the DG set; coordinate with the electricity distribution company (UPPCL/DISCOM) on outages, meter readings and supply complaints.
2. Maintain the power factor near unity through APFC panels and capacitor banks, and keep maximum demand within the sanctioned load to avoid penalties.
3. Monitor daily units consumed, maximum demand, power factor and DG hours; report kWh per tonne of pellets produced and suggest measures to reduce it.
4. Plan DG set changeover and load management during power cuts so that critical equipment is protected.
B. Plant Electrical Equipment
1. Maintain all motors, starters (DOL/star-delta/soft starters), VFDs, control panels, MCCs, PLC/control wiring, sensors and interlocks of the pellet mills, hammer mills/chippers, dryer, conveyors, screw feeders, blowers, cyclones and cooler.
2.
Diagnose and rectify electrical breakdowns quickly; maintain stock of critical spares (contactors, relays, fuses, bearings, cables, motor spares) and arrange motor rewinding or repair when needed.
3. Prepare and carry out the preventive maintenance schedule: panel cleaning and tightening, thermal checks, insulation resistance (Megger) tests, motor current and vibration checks, and earth resistance testing.
4. Maintain plant lighting, earthing system, lightning protection and fire-alarm wiring in valuable working order.
5. Supervise installation, wiring and commissioning of new machines and any expansion of the electrical system.
C. Safety, Records and Team
1. Enforce electrical safety at all times: lockout/tagout, permit-to-work, use of PPE, rubber mats and insulated tools, and safe practices for work near dust and moisture in a biomass plant.
2. Ensure compliance with the Central Electricity Authority (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations and inspections by the State Electrical Inspector; keep test records and registers up to date.
3. Maintain the log book of breakdowns, maintenance done, energy readings, spares used and downtime; give a daily report to the Plant Manager.
4. Supervise and train electricians and helpers; allocate work across shifts and ensure proper handover at shift change.
5. Work closely with the production and mechanical teams so that maintenance is planned with minimum loss of production.
