Role & responsibilities

- Researching current fashion trends and determining what consumers will like
- Collaborating with the design team to develop ideas for new products based on research data
- Designing sketches for new products with a design team
- Creating clothing patterns for mass production
- Testing and deciding on fabrics, colors, patterns and textures for each design
- Overseeing the production of designs, including carrying out fittings, determining prices and managing marketing
- Selecting fabrics and trims
- Creating tech packs with detailed specifications
- Developing CAD sketches to present to stakeholders
- Overseeing the prototype sample process
- Working with the design team to create mood boards
- Creating cost sheets and product lists





Preferred candidate profile Garment construction knowledge and pattern making capability are the most fundamental technical skills for any fashion design graduate entering the professional market. An employer who reviews a portfolio showing technically complex designs will expect the candidate to be able to describe how those garments were constructed . Textile and fabric knowledge is a form of technical intelligence that affects every design decision a fashion design graduate makes in skilled practice, from the initial selection of materials for a concept to the final specification of construction details that depend on how specific fabrics behave
