Open role
Test Automation EngineerLoad, API regression, and mobile end-to-end coverage for a live React Native marketplace app.
DawerOne · Hybrid, Gurugram office a few days a month · Contract, part-time · 3+ years
Apply by email About the job
You will join our product engineering team on a live client engagement: a React Native marketplace app on iOS and Android with a NestJS and GraphQL backend, live users, and a launch milestone ahead. Our clients are in North America and our engineering team is in Gurugram.
You work in a small pod of two developers and a senior lead. The lead holds technical direction, priorities, and the tooling decisions. You own the test engineering: a load test before the launch, an API regression suite for the order flow, and an end-to-end smoke suite on both platforms. We are not automating the whole system. We cover what is fragile first and build from there.
This is a part-time contract, roughly half-time, scoped to the launch and the suites that outlive it. It is hybrid: you work from home most of the month and from our Gurugram office a few days a month. Gurugram and Delhi NCR are preferred, but we will consider strong candidates elsewhere in India who can travel for those days. Rate is benchmarked to seniority and we share a number in the first conversation.
There may be a longer-term opportunity. DawerOne builds and runs products for its clients over the long term, and the suites you build here are maintained after launch. Depending on business growth, project demand, and mutual fit, the contract may lead to a full-time role.
Responsibilities
Load testing
- Design and run a load test against the backend (GraphQL API, Postgres, Redis) that reflects real usage, ahead of the launch.
- Identify bottlenecks and write them up with evidence, then work with the developers on fixes.
- Re-run after fixes and report the before and after.
API regression
- Build an automated regression suite for the order and checkout flow: status transitions, webhook handling, cancellations, refunds, and failure paths.
- Cover the paths that move money first.
- Keep the suite rapid enough to run on every build.
Mobile end-to-end
- Build a smoke suite of 10 to 15 critical user flows that runs on iOS and Android.
- Handle flakiness properly: stable selectors, test data, and retries only where they are justified.
- Expand to medium-priority flows in month two.
CI and handover
- Wire the suites into CI so results are visible to the team on every build.
- Document the framework, the tagging convention, and the flake policy so the team can run and extend the suites without you.
Minimum qualifications What matters most For us, these matter most.
- You have run a load test on a real, production-bound backend and turned the results into fixes. You will be asked what you found and what changed.
- You have built and maintained a mobile end-to-end suite on a real product, not a tutorial app, with Maestro, Detox, or Appium. You will be asked which flows you automated and what broke.
- You can explain how you would test a payment webhook without making a real payment.
Experience
- 3+ years in test automation, including API automation in TypeScript or JavaScript with Jest, Supertest, or similar, and GraphQL.
- Load testing with k6, Artillery, Locust, or similar.
- GitHub Actions or equivalent CI.
- Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot daily, while understanding and owning everything they produce. There is no learning period for this.
Ways of working
- You own outcomes, not tickets. If the scope you were given does not cover what is actually breaking, you say so.
- You report progress in writing, clearly, without being asked.
- You work with a senior lead who reviews your work and sometimes disagrees with it.
- Available on Indian working hours, with occasional evening calls with the client in US Eastern time, and able to be in the Gurugram office a few days a month.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Stripe test mode and webhook testing.
- Experience on a React Native or Expo project as a developer.
- Experience with Supabase or Postgres performance tuning.
- Experience choosing a test framework for a codebase rather than inheriting one.
Engagement details
- Engagement: an initial two months through the launch, then ongoing suite maintenance at reduced hours.
- Time commitment: roughly half-time.
- Location: hybrid, with a few days a month in our Gurugram office. Gurugram and Delhi NCR preferred; strong candidates elsewhere in India are considered if they can travel for office days.
- Working hours: Indian working hours. The team and the senior lead are in India. Occasional evening calls with the client in US Eastern time.
- Start: the launch is ahead of us, so we need someone who can begin within a couple of weeks.
- Longer term: the contract may lead to a full-time role depending on business growth, project demand, and mutual fit. That would be discussed separately and is not guaranteed.
Who should apply Someone who has done this before on a product that mattered, and wants to do it again with a senior lead who will engage with the hard decisions rather than hand over a ticket list.
If most of your automation experience is a framework you inherited, this is probably not the right role yet.
Apply
Email us your resume. It is required. The button opens a ready-to-send email; attach your resume before sending. In your email, answer these 3 questions:
1. Describe one load test you ran: tool, what you simulated, what you found, what got fixed as a result.
2. How would you test a payment webhook that moves an order from PENDING to PAID, without a real payment?
3. Which mobile end-to-end tool have you used most, and what was the hardest flakiness problem you solved with it?
