Role Overview

We are seeking a senior Technical Head to lead the Sampling and Development function. The role requires strong technical expertise and a thorough understanding of the products we manufacture, along with the leadership to deliver sampling and development programs that meet customer expectations, quality standards, and delivery timelines.

The Technical Head will own technical evaluation, product feasibility, and sampling execution end to end. Working closely with customers and internal teams, the role resolves technical challenges, makes sure product requirements are clearly understood before sampling begins, and builds the technical capability of the garment technician team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Review & Product Feasibility

· Analyse customer tech packs, sketches, specifications, measurement charts, construction details, and workmanship requirements to fully understand each product.

· Assess product feasibility against garment construction, fabric and trim behaviour, wash-finish requirements, and technical risks.

· Identify technical gaps early and recommend practical construction or process solutions before sampling begins.

· Provide technical inputs for costing, including construction methods, SMV, and fabric consumption.

· Translate customer requests into technical garment development solutions, ensuring design feasibility and product functionality.

· Coordinate closely with design teams on fabric selection, trim compatibility, garment detailing, and construction techniques.

· Understand the characteristics of different fabric categories and determine suitable trims, construction techniques, and finishing methods for each garment.

· Evaluate fabric suitability and identify appropriate garment construction approaches based on design requirements and end-use.

· Explore and develop new avenues in garment development across design, technical, and construction aspects, considering fabric characteristics,

trim selection, and garment feasibility.

Sampling & Development Delivery

· Lead the sample room and development team so that all samples are completed and submitted within agreed timelines.

· Plan sample room capacity, workload, and priorities across customers and seasons.

· Conduct fit sessions, review fit comments, and drive pattern and construction corrections.

· Review and sign off every sample against customer specifications and quality standards before submission.

· Track sample status, approvals, comments, and revisions, and reduce the number of sample rounds per style.

· Drive seasonal garment development in collaboration with design teams, aligning product concepts with collection requirements.

· Lead sampling and technical development activities to translate garment concepts into production-ready samples.

· Prepare and develop garment lines for seasonal collections in coordination with the Technical Head, Sampling, and Development teams.

Customer Liaison & Technical Ownership

· Act as the senior technical point of contact for customers on construction, specifications, feasibility, and development concerns.

· Translate customer feedback into clear, actionable instructions for internal teams.

· Take full ownership of technical issues and coordinate merchandising, pattern, sampling, production, and quality teams to resolve them within customer timelines.

· Escalate risks to sample quality or delivery proactively and ensure closure with all stakeholders

Sampling-to-Production Handover

· Lead pre-production (PP) meetings and ensure complete technical handover from sampling to bulk production.

· Be present on the production floor to support the line on technical issues during bulk, so that issues solved in sampling do not recur in production.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

· Guide, coach, and train garment technicians to upgrade their technical skills and problem-solving capability.

· Identify skill gaps across the technical and sampling teams and run structured, hands-on training.

· Set technical standards and SOPs for sampling, tech pack interpretation, and measurement checks.

· Set KRAs for the team, review performance, and build accountability for quality and timelines.

Key Performance Indicators

· On-time sample submission rate

· Right-first-time sample approval rate and average sample rounds per style

· Technical issues carried from sampling into bulk production

· Measurable skill improvement across the garment technician team

· Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple development programs at once.

· Confident customer communication and stakeholder management at a senior level.
