The Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can become a key technical contributor to Taiyo's next stage of growth.

This is a hands-on engineering role spanning advanced AI workflows, Python backend development, large-scale data infrastructure, cloud architecture, and production systems.

You'll help build and scale the services behind our AI platform, improve how we process and serve large volumes of data, and develop the backend infrastructure supporting increasingly sophisticated AI agents and enterprise applications.

You'll also help strengthen our security and compliance foundations, including the technical implementation and documentation of controls supporting SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

This is not a dedicated compliance or DevOps role. We're looking for a versatile software engineer who can work across systems, make sound architectural decisions, and grow into a technical leader.

What You'll Work On

1. AI Systems & Advanced Workflows

- Design, build, and maintain sophisticated AI applications and agentic workflows using Python.
- Develop LLM orchestration, tool-calling, multi-step reasoning, retrieval, and agent execution systems.
- Build integrations between foundation models, internal data services, APIs, databases, and enterprise workflows.
- Improve AI workflow reliability, evaluation, observability, latency, and inference efficiency.
- Explore and implement emerging AI engineering techniques where they create meaningful product value.
- Help translate new AI capabilities into robust, production-ready software.

- Backend Engineering & Scalable Data Systems

- Design and build production backend services, APIs, and distributed processing systems.
- Help scale Taiyo's ingestion, transformation, indexing, retrieval, and data-serving infrastructure.
- Improve system performance, availability, data quality, and processing efficiency.
- Work with structured and unstructured data across large and growing datasets.




- Design asynchronous workflows, background jobs, and reliable service integrations.
- Build reusable engineering infrastructure that supports the wider product and AI teams.
- Identify architectural bottlenecks and proactively propose better solutions.

- Cloud Infrastructure & Production Engineering

- Build, deploy, and maintain cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Work with containers, Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
- Improve monitoring, logging, reliability, fault tolerance, and cost efficiency.
- Strengthen infrastructure architecture to support growing enterprise workloads.
- Develop internal tools and automation that reduce operational overhead.
- Take end-to-end responsibility for the systems you build, from design and implementation to deployment and production support.

- Security, Compliance & Engineering Foundations

As Taiyo grows its enterprise business, security and compliance are important engineering priorities.

You'll contribute to the technical foundations supporting SOC 2 and ISO 27001, working alongside leadership and external compliance specialists.

- Implement and document security controls across AWS, Kubernetes, repositories, and development workflows.
- Strengthen access management, encryption, secrets management, logging, monitoring, backups, and change controls.
- Automate security checks, compliance evidence collection, and relevant operational documentation.
- Support technical remediation, audit preparation, and customer security requirements.
- Ensure that security and compliance become part of our engineering practices rather than separate administrative processes.

Compliance is an important near-term initiative, but the broader and longer-term responsibility is building excellent software and scalable AI infrastructure.
- Engineering Ownership & Leadership

- Take ownership of substantial technical problems from definition to production.
- Make sound architectural decisions and communicate trade-offs clearly.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and well-documented code.
- Review code, mentor other engineers, and help raise engineering standards.
- Proactively identify weaknesses, technical debt, and opportunities for improvement.
- Build systems and processes that reduce dependencies and help the wider team move faster.
- Work directly with the founding team and contribute to engineering and product priorities.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications





- 5+ years of strong, hands-on software engineering experience.
- Excellent Python programming skills, including production backend systems, APIs, automation, and data processing.
- Experience building AI/LLM applications, agentic workflows, or sophisticated backend automation.
- Experience developing and operating production systems on AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, databases, APIs, asynchronous processing, and system reliability.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and modern software deployment practices.
- Working knowledge of application security and secure software development.
- Ability to independently investigate complex technical problems and deliver reliable solutions.
- Strong communication, documentation, and collaborative engineering skills.

Highly Desirable
- Experience with LLM orchestration frameworks, retrieval systems, vector databases, model evaluation, or multi-agent architectures.
- Experience scaling large data ingestion pipelines, distributed data processing, and search infrastructure.
- AWS EKS, Terraform, Helm, or related infrastructure tooling.
- TypeScript and modern web application development.
- Experience with security controls, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or compliance automation platforms such as Vanta.
- Experience optimizing cloud infrastructure, model inference, or large-scale data workloads.
- Experience in a fast-moving startup or small engineering team.
