Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Engineer who leads the technical design, development, and delivery of D365 F&O; solutions and who works AI-first. In this role, the majority of routine development work (X++ extensions, data entities, event handlers, unit tests, build and deployment pipelines, and technical documentation) is expected to be generated and automated through AI coding assistants and agents inside a Git-based workflow. You own the architecture, the review, and the quality; AI handles the repetitive volume.

We hire for judgment and leverage, not typing speed. A strong candidate delivers several times the output of a traditional D365 developer while maintaining or improving code quality and upgrade-safety.

AI-assisted coding

Use AI coding tools and agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to draft X++ extensions, data entities, CoC wrappers, event handlers, and tests from specifications, then review, harden, and refactor the output.

Git-native workflow

Work entirely through Git: feature branches, pull requests, AI-assisted code review, and clean merges, using Azure DevOps Repos or GitHub.

Pipeline automation

Automate builds, static analysis (best-practice checks), automated tests, and deployable package creation through CI/CD pipelines, with minimal manual steps.

Context engineering

Build and maintain reusable AI assets: repo instruction files, prompt libraries, X++ coding standards, and approved patterns so AI output is consistent across the team.

Governance & quality

Treat every AI-generated change as untrusted until reviewed. Follow company rules on security, IP, and data handling; never expose credentials or production data to unapproved tools.

Docs as code

Generate and maintain solution design documents (SDD), change request documents, and technical notes from code and specs, stored alongside the code.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership





- Lead D365 F&O; development projects and act as the technical authority for implementation and support initiatives.
- Set and enforce coding standards, extension-first design, and upgrade-safe patterns across all developments.
- Serve as subject matter expert, providing technical estimates and consulting to project stakeholders and leadership, with estimates that reflect AI-accelerated delivery.
- Ensure global scalability and compliance with enterprise design standards.

AI-Augmented Development

- Design, develop, and customize solutions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O; and industry-specific ISVs/add-ons using AI coding assistants and agents as the default way of working.
- Turn requirements and designs into exact prompts, specs, and acceptance criteria that AI tools can execute reliably.
- Review, optimize, and refactor AI-generated and existing X++ code for performance, scalability, security, and upgrade compatibility.
- Use AI to generate unit tests, test data, and technical documentation (SDD, CRDD) as part of every change, not as an afterthought.
- Continuously evaluate recent AI tooling, agents, and MCP-based integrations; pilot, measure, and standardize what works.

DevOps, Integrations & Quality

- Manage Git branching strategy, code merges, and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps (or GitHub), automating build, test, and release wherever possible.
- Design and implement robust APIs and integrations using OData, REST/JSON, and other standard protocols.
- Participate in agile delivery using Azure DevOps, LCS/Power Platform admin tooling, and Visual Studio.
- Provide technical troubleshooting, bug fixing, and post-deployment support, using AI to speed up root-cause analysis and fix validation.
- Support upgrades and data migration work, including refactoring legacy code, using AI to accelerate analysis and conversion.

Mentoring & Enablement

- Coach junior developers and functional consultants on effective, safe AI-assisted development; share prompts, patterns, and lessons learned.




- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement change requests, technical designs, and improvements.

Your Profile

Required

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 full lifecycle ERP implementations involving Dynamics 365 F&O;, leading technical workstreams.
- 5+ years of hands-on D365 F&O; development using X++, Data Entities, and the Extensions model.
- Strong command of Git, Azure DevOps (or GitHub), build/release pipelines, and Lifecycle Services (LCS).
- Proven, current hands-on use of AI coding tools in daily development, with real examples you can walk us through, including where AI got it wrong and how you caught it.
- Track record of mentoring developers; ability to raise team productivity through shared standards and tooling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to write clear specs that AI can act on.
- Self-starter with strong analytical thinking; able to work independently in a global, cross-functional team.

Nice to Have

- Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate.
- Experience building CI/CD automation for D365 F&O;, including automated testing (SysTest, RSAT).
- Experience with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps), Copilot Studio, or Azure integration services.
- Experience in home furnishings, retail, or supply chain domains; exposure to systems such as Shopify, Salesforce, Tableau, or warehouse management tools.
- Prior AX 2012 to D365 upgrade experience.
