Role Summary The Senior Python Developer owns the design and implementation of Python-based applications, RESTful JSON APIs, data-processing workflows, and AI-enabled analysis and inference capabilities. This role is responsible for one or more applications, shares responsibility for solution architecture and data models, guides junior developers, and helps ensure that software is secure, testable, maintainable, observable, and production-ready within the Microsoft Azure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end implementation of application features and technical work items.
- Design, build, and maintain RESTful JSON APIs using FastAPI or Django.
- Share responsibility for system architecture, application boundaries, integration patterns, and technical decision-making.
- Design and evolve relational data models, ORM models, and programmatic database schema migrations.
- Develop and own AI-powered analysis, inference, chatbot, and orchestration processes.
- Design data-processing and ETL workflows using dataframe and distributed-computing technologies when appropriate.
- Optimize Python execution paths, database access, and query performance.
- Select appropriate execution strategies, including synchronous processing, asynchronous I/O, concurrency, threading, background workers, and distributed workloads.
- Design integrations with PostgreSQL, Azure Storage, Spark platforms, and other application services.
- Implement authentication with OAuth 2.0 and contribute to authorization designs involving access-control lists, groups, memberships, or roles.
- Write type-annotated, documented, and well-tested Python code; maintain pytest functional tests and code-coverage requirements.
- Conduct code reviews, establish implementation patterns, and mentor junior developers.
- Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces,
and application-monitoring tools.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployment processes, and reliable release practices.
- Participate in Agile-Scrum ceremonies and ensure work is appropriately understood, estimated, decomposed, and tracked.
- Use Git according to team standards, including branch naming and pull or merge request workflows.
- Use AI coding assistants responsibly while validating generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and licensing concerns.
- Enforce strict client data confidentiality, security controls, and required data safeguards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Advanced professional experience developing production applications in Python.
- Advanced SQL skills, including query design, debugging, performance analysis, and tuning.
- Professional experience building APIs with FastAPI, Django, or a comparable Python web framework.
- Experience designing or contributing to application architecture and relational data models.
- Experience creating and managing programmatic database schema migrations.
- Solid knowledge of Python performance characteristics and techniques for diagnosing and optimizing execution hot spots.
- Practical knowledge of asynchronous programming, concurrency, threading, background processing, and distributed execution, including when each approach is appropriate.
- Experience with data wrangling using Polars, pandas, or comparable dataframe tools.
- Understanding of ETL patterns and data-quality analysis and validation.
- Professional experience implementing OAuth 2.0 authentication.
- Professional experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong automated testing experience, including functional testing with pytest and management of code coverage.
- Proficiency with Python type annotations, docstrings, dependency management, and uv.
- Strong Git and pull-request-based development practices.
- Experience conducting code reviews and providing actionable technical guidance.
- Ability to lead feature delivery within an Agile-Scrum team and communicate technical tradeoffs to engineering and product stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to secure development and confidential client data handling.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with PostgreSQL, including the pgvector extension.
- Experience building and deploying containerized APIs and worker processes.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure Container Apps, Azure App Service, Azure Storage, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Container Registry, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, or Log Analytics.
- Experience using Microsoft Entra ID as an identity provider.
- Knowledge of authorization strategies such as access-control lists, groups, memberships, and role-based access control.
- Experience with task or worker queues and out-of-band processing.
- Experience with Apache Spark on Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks.
- Experience developing AI-enabled applications, including predetermined analysis, inference, chatbots, vector search, or orchestration.
- Experience with Azure DevOps Repos, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Enterprise, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience or domain knowledge in accounting, finance, or advisory services.
