About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient Patent Illustrator/ Technical Drafts person with at least 3 years of experience in preparing high-quality patent drawings and technical illustrations for patent applications, in addition to having technical competence to pivot towards searches/India patent office practice. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated domain expertise in patent illustration across mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronics, and software systems, along with technical depth in his/her engineering discipline. This position offers an opportunity to work across both patent illustration and patent search functions, supporting end-to-end intellectual property services.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering concepts and precise intellectual property documentation. You will convert 3D CAD assemblies, circuit schematics, hardware prototypes, and software architecture diagrams into publication-ready 2D vector line drawings for patent applications.

Over time, you will have the opportunity to learn end-to-end IPO (Indian Patent Office), USPTO, and PCT filing and docketing workflows, expanding your skill set into full-lifecycle patent portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

- Mechanical & CAD Vectorization: Import and explode 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, STEP/IGES) to create precise isometric, orthographic, cross-sectional, and exploded assembly views.
- Electronics & Circuit Schematics: Draft clean, standardized schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, sensor placements, component wiring harnesses, and pinout configurations.
- Software & System Architecture: Create structured software flowcharts, user interface (UI) wireframes, data flow diagrams, network topologies, and system block diagrams.
- Complex Surface Shading & Line Mechanics: Apply technical hatching,



stippling, and line-weight hierarchy (boundary vs. interior lines) to depict 3D contours and textures without relying on color or greyscale.
- Reference Layout & Compliance: Position lead lines, reference numerals, and figure labels cleanly while ensuring strict adherence to USPTO (37 CFR 1.84), IPO, and PCT drawing rules to eliminate formal rejections.
- Administrative Development: Gradually cross-train in patent administration, learning formal document preparation, e-filing submission portals, and docketing management across IPO, USPTO, and PCT systems.
- Convert rough inventor sketches and engineering concepts into accurate, transparent, and publication-ready patent drawings.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable patent office requirements, formatting guidelines, reference numeral conventions, and drawing standards.
- Review drawings for consistency with patent specifications, claims, figure descriptions, and reference numerals.
- Incorporate feedback from patent agents, attorneys, inventors, and internal reviewers.
- Manage drawing revisions and maintain quality and consistency across multiple patent projects.
- Deliver assignments within agreed timelines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Patent Search & IP Research

- Conduct patentability, novelty, and prior-art searches using patent databases and relevant non-patent literature sources.
- Search patent databases such as Google Patents, WIPO PATENTSCOPE, Espacenet, and relevant national patent databases.
- Understand invention disclosures and identify relevant technical features, keywords, synonyms, and alternative terminology for search strategies.
- Perform keyword-based, classification-based, and technology-focused searches.
- Review patent documents, technical drawings, abstracts, claims,



and descriptions to identify relevant prior art.
- Prepare preliminary search summaries and organize relevant patent documents for further analysis by senior analysts.
- Identify similarities and differences between an invention and relevant prior-art references, without independently providing legal conclusions.
- Support patent landscaping, technology monitoring, and related IP research assignments as required.

Key Qualifications

- B.Tech/M.Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
- Strong technical background and communication skills.
- Multi-Domain Technical Expertise: 3+ years of experience drafting formal patent or technical illustrations spanning mechanical assemblies, electronics/hardware, or software/tech architecture.3D CAD & Diagramming Tools: Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, or AutoCAD, as well as schematic/diagramming tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or Draw.io).
- Vector Graphic Mastery: Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or Canvas GF X for path cleanup, line-weight manipulation, and precision hatch shading.
- Spatial & Technical Reasoning: Ability to translate complex mechanical linkages, PCB layouts, and multi-step software logic flows into clean 2D line art from engineer sketches or functional descriptions.
- Eagerness to Learn: Strong interest in expanding into patent filing logistics, procedural office rules, and docketing systems across major patent offices (IPO, USPTO, PCT).
