The role involves maintaining accurate survey records, calculating quantities of coal and overburden (OB), monitoring mine development, and providing technical support to mine management for protected and efficient mining operations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

A. Mine Surveying and Field Operations

- Conduct routine and periodic surveys of mining areas, including open-cast mines, excavation zones, haul roads, dumps, benches, and other operational areas.
- Establish, verify, and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, and reference stations.
- Carry out topographical surveys, contour surveys, level surveys, and detailed ground surveys.

B. Mine Plans and Drawings
- Prepare, update, and maintain statutory mine plans, sections, surface plans, working plans, and other relevant drawings.
- Update mine layouts to reflect actual site conditions, excavation progress, and approved mining boundaries.
- Prepare longitudinal and cross-sections, contour maps, and digital terrain models.

C. Quantity Calculation and Production Reconciliation
- Calculate excavation quantities, including coal, overburden, waste material, and other mined materials.
- Prepare monthly and periodic volume calculations using survey data and approved measurement methodologies.
- Conduct pre- and post-excavation surveys to determine actual quantities excavated.

D. Mining Operations and Planning Support
- Provide accurate survey inputs for short-term and long-term mine planning.
- Assist the Mine Manager and planning team in determining excavation sequences,

bench development, dump locations, and haul road alignments.
- Monitor mining activities against approved plans and report deviations from prescribed boundaries or levels.

E. Statutory Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain mine survey books, field notes, calculations, plans, sections, and related technical records.
- Support compliance with applicable provisions of the Mines Act, 1952, the Mines Rules, 1955, the Coal Mines Regulations, 2017, and other applicable laws, rules, and directions, as amended or replaced from time to time.
- Ensure survey records and mine plans are available for inspections and audits by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and other competent authorities.

F. Survey Equipment and Technology
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments such as Total Stations, DGPS/GNSS equipment, auto levels, theodolites, and other relevant instruments.
- Use GPS/GNSS-based positioning and coordinate systems for accurate field measurements.
- Process survey data using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other relevant CAD and mine-survey software.

G. Safety and Coordination
- Follow all mine-site safety procedures, permit requirements, and applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Coordinate with the Mine Manager, mining engineers, geologists, contractors, and other site personnel.

H. Reporting and MIS

- Prepare daily survey activity reports and maintain field measurement records.
- Submit weekly and monthly reports covering mine development, excavation quantities, coal and OB volumes, and deviations from planned activities.

Educational Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Surveying, Survey Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- A recognized Mine Surveyor's Certificate of Competency, where required for the assigned statutory duties.
- Additional training in surveying instruments, CAD software, GPS/GNSS, and mine-survey applications will be an advantage.

Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Total Station, DGPS/GNSS, levelling instruments, and topographical surveying.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and preferably Civil 3D or relevant mine-planning software.
- Understanding of contour mapping, coordinate systems, volume calculations, and digital terrain modelling.
- Ability to prepare mine sections, survey drawings, and excavation quantity statements.
- Knowledge of mine plans, approved mining boundaries, and applicable statutory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and preparation of technical reports and MIS.
- Strong analytical, numerical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will have practical experience in open-cast mining, strong technical expertise in mine surveying, and the ability to deliver accurate survey data for production monitoring, excavation measurement, mine planning, and statutory documentation. The candidate should be comfortable working at mine sites, coordinating with operational teams, and maintaining reliable survey records to support safe, compliant, and efficient mining operations.
