Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Microbiologist to carry out microbiological testing of drinking water, groundwater, surface water, sewage and industrial wastewater samples, as applicable. The candidate will perform laboratory analysis, maintain quality-control and technical records, follow approved procedures, and support accurate and timely reporting of results.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform microbiological analysis of water and wastewater samples as per the laboratorys approved scope.

- Test applicable parameters such as Total Coliform, Faecal Coliform and E. coli.

- Carry out MPN, membrane filtration and other validated methods, as applicable.

- Prepare culture media, reagents and sterilization materials; verify media performance where required.

- Operate and routinely monitor autoclaves, incubators, laminar airflow cabinets and related equipment.

- Apply aseptic techniques and prevent cross-contamination during sample handling and analysis.

- Ensure appropriate sample receipt, identification, preservation, storage and testing within prescribed holding times.

- Maintain worksheets, raw data, calculations, culture records, equipment logs and quality-control records.





- Perform applicable quality checks using blanks, controls, duplicates and other prescribed QC measures.

- Follow approved SOPs, method requirements, biosafety practices and applicable ISO/IEC 17025/NABL procedures.

- Assist with equipment calibration/verification, internal audits, proficiency testing, nonconformities and corrective actions.

- Review observations and results, and support preparation of accurate test reports.

- Decontaminate work areas and ensure secure sterilization and disposal of microbiological waste.

Required Skills and Competencies

- Practical understanding of water and wastewater microbiology.

- Knowledge of MPN and membrane filtration techniques.

- Experience in culture media preparation, sterilization and aseptic laboratory practices.

- Understanding of quality assurance, quality control, traceability and laboratory documentation.

- Ability to follow SOPs, maintain accurate records and work carefully with samples.

- Knowledge of NABL-accredited laboratory practices and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements will be an advantage.
