About the role
Atmosbox develops containerised systems for water treatment, storage and drinking water supply. Working with our German team, you will develop the complete mechanical design of an Atmosbox container solution for the Indian market: from prototype construction and testing to a standardised design that can be manufactured reliably and cost-effectively in larger quantities, adapted to local operating conditions, manufacturing capabilities and component availability. You will also support the development of other prototypes as required.
Your tasks
- Develop the overall container layout and integrate water generation and treatment equipment, tanks, pumps, piping and other components, ensuring good access for operation, cleaning, maintenance and component replacement.
- Design container modifications, frames, supports, mountings and piping layouts; select materials, connections and corrosion protection together with technical specialists.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, manufacturing, assembly and installation drawings, exploded views and mechanical BOMs with consistent component references, kept in line with the actual design.
- Perform mechanical sizing and design checks for structures, supports and connections (operating, transport and installation loads); coordinate specialist calculations where needed, including integration of solar mounting structures.
- Plan and support prototype fabrication and assembly with local manufacturing partners, resolve practical issues and verify that construction matches the documentation.
- Take part in commissioning and mechanical testing (fit, accessibility, leaks, vibration, etc.), document findings and implement design improvements.
- Evaluate locally available components and alternatives with the technical team and Supply Chain Specialist.
- Develop standardised components and assemblies and improve manufacturing and assembly methods to reduce cost,
simplify production and ensure consistent quality at scale.
- Identify mechanical safety and installation requirements with specialist support and implement hygienic design requirements defined with the Water Treatment Specialist.
Responsibility and collaboration
You hold technical responsibility for the overall mechanical design and integration (layout, component installation, supports, piping, CAD models, drawings and documentation) and support manufacturing, assembly, testing and design improvements in India. You work closely with the Water Treatment Specialist and Electrical Engineer so that process, hygiene, electrical and maintenance requirements are reflected in the physical design, and collaborate with the German team, colleagues in India, suppliers, manufacturing partners and external specialists. External specialists may support specific calculations or design tasks; overall responsibility for mechanical integration stays with you.
Your profile
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Hands-on experience in the mechanical design of machinery, industrial equipment or similar systems, including fabrication, assembly and testing
- Solid skills in professional 3D CAD and in preparing manufacturing, assembly and installation drawings
- Working knowledge of materials, tolerances, sheet metal fabrication, welded structures, mechanical connections and piping installation
- Ability to carry out practical mechanical calculations, assess feasibility and recognise when specialist support is needed
- Good English, an independent working style and a practical, team-oriented attitude towards changing startup priorities
- Willingness to work directly with manufacturing and assembly partners in India and get hands-on in prototype construction, testing and troubleshooting
- Nice to have: experience with containerised systems, water treatment equipment, hygienic design or scaling from prototype to production
