1. Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced L2/L3 Backup Administrator Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, administering, troubleshooting, and optimizing enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure. The role requires strong hands-on experience with Commvault, with additional knowledge of Veritas for migration activities. The engineer will manage backup and recovery across virtual machines, physical servers, databases, Kubernetes, storage infrastructure, and enterprise applications, while supporting DR/NDR operations, backup migrations, restoration, capacity planning, security, compliance, and continuous improvement.
1. Key Responsibilities

Backup Solution Design & Implementation • Design, implement, configure, and manage enterprise backup solutions for critical systems, applications, and databases.

• Understand application and infrastructure requirements and design appropriate backup policies and protection strategies.

• Build recent backup environments/solutions from scratch based on business and technical requirements.

• Perform workload onboarding and migration to new backup platforms with minimum business disruption.

• Configure backup policies, schedules, retention, storage pools, deduplication, compression, and auxiliary copy requirements.

• Ensure backup solutions meet defined RPO, RTO, retention, and business continuity requirements.

Commvault Administration

• Administer and troubleshoot Commvault Backup & Recovery environments, including CommCell, MediaAgents, storage pools, deduplication databases, libraries, policies, and schedules.

• Manage backup, restore, auxiliary copy, retention, and storage operations.

• Monitor backup health, failed/pending jobs, storage utilization, deduplication, and overall environment performance.

• Troubleshoot Commvault configuration, infrastructure, connectivity, and performance issues.

• Raise and manage OEM/vendor support cases and coordinate resolution through closure.

• Implement applicable Commvault security and hardening capabilities.

Backup Monitoring & Operations

• Monitor backup operations and ensure successful completion within agreed SLAs.

• Review daily backup reports and identify failed, missed, pending, or abnormal jobs.

• Perform root-cause analysis for recurring backup failures and implement permanent corrective actions.

• Maintain daily/weekly/monthly backup operational reports and dashboards.

Backup Troubleshooting & Restoration

• Handling incidents and complex backup-related technical issues.

• Troubleshoot backup and restore failures across VMware/VMs, physical servers, Linux, Windows, Solaris, Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kubernetes, and enterprise applications.

• Perform file-level, VM-level, database-level, and application-level restoration.

• Validate restoration integrity and prepare RCA/corrective action plans for major incidents.

Disaster Recovery – DR/NDR

• Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures.

• Configure and maintain backup/replication copies at DR and NDR locations.





• Enable backup protection for workloads migrated to DR and maintain required secondary copies.

• Participate in DR drills, BCP exercises, and disaster recovery activities.

• Validate restoration capability during DR drills and document observations and corrective actions.

Backup Migration

• Plan and execute migration from legacy backup platforms to Commvault or other target platforms.

• Support Veritas-to-Commvault workload migration.

• Analyze existing policies, retention, storage consumption, and application dependencies before migration.

• Validate successful backup and restoration after migration.

Capacity Planning & Optimization

• Perform backup data sizing and capacity planning.

• Monitor storage growth, deduplication ratios, compression, and retention consumption.

• Optimize backup policies, storage utilization, backup windows, compression, deduplication, and auxiliary copy strategies.

Security & Compliance

• Implement backup security and access controls as per organizational policies.

• Support advanced Commvault security features and secure backup practices.

• Support internal/external audits, including RBI and banking regulatory requirements where applicable.

• Maintain audit evidence, backup reports, restoration records, policies, and governance documentation.

Documentation

• Maintain up-to-date backup infrastructure and operational documentation.

• Prepare Backup Architecture, Configuration, Policy Matrix, Backup/Restore SOPs, DR/NDR Configuration, Migration Plans, Health Check Reports, RCA documents, DR Drill documents, and Capacity Reports.

• Update documentation after major configuration or infrastructure changes.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Work with Application, Database, Server, Storage, Network, Security, and DR teams.

• Understand application requirements and recommend suitable backup/recovery solutions.

• Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for complex issues and technical escalations.

• Participate in change management, implementation planning, and technical reviews.

Extended & Major Incident Support

• Handle complex and critical backup incidents independently.

• Provide L3 support for major backup failures, data recovery issues, and infrastructure incidents.

• Provide support during DR drills, migrations, planned maintenance, and major implementation activities during weekends/night shifts when required.

• Leave/comp-off will be managed as per agreed organizational/customer terms and applicable policy.

Continuous Improvement

• Prepare and implement a quarterly backup process improvement plan.

• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.

• Automate repetitive monitoring and operational activities where feasible.

• Reduce recurring incidents through permanent corrective actions.

• Experience migrating workloads from Veritas or other legacy platforms to Commvault.

• The ideal candidate is a hands-on L2/L3 Backup Administrator with strong Commvault expertise, capable of independently managing enterprise backup infrastructure, troubleshooting complex backup/restore issues, supporting DR/NDR environments, performing Veritas-to-Commvault migration, handling database and Kubernetes backups, and driving continuous improvement. • Candidates with experience in large enterprise or banking environments, particularly those familiar with RBI/compliance requirements, DR drills, NDR, air-gapped/secure backup, and critical application recovery, will be preferred.
