About the role

This role sits in the Point of Sale team within the technology organization. The team maintains the POS system and integrates it with backend enterprise systems.

As IT Technical Program Manager, you will plan, develop, manage, and implement medium to large cross-divisional, multi-year projects using a structured project management methodology. Projects have both a business and a technology focus, and you will be expected to lead from the front.

You will also support high-level technical design and architecture reviews for key implementations, coordinating with the team's architects and other cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

Program planning and delivery

- Initiate, plan, control, and implement medium to large cross-divisional, multi-year projects using project management practices.
- Ensure all deliverables are completed: project charter, plan, schedule, requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, policies and procedures, standards, contracts, and resolution of risks and issues.




- Plan projects in detail, develop and manage project budgets, organize project teams, and work with resource managers to align resource needs.
- Identify, evaluate, and proactively manage cross-project interdependencies.

Stakeholder management

- Track progress and report status regularly to sponsors and stakeholders, and to senior leadership as needed.
- Take part in strategic roadmap planning, and facilitate or provide materials for portfolio review meetings.
- Communicate effectively at every level, from individual contributors to executives.

Technical oversight and operations

- Ensure smooth implementation of new technologies and vendor integrations, using expertise in the assigned domains and interfaces.
- Conduct technical walkthroughs with software engineers to confirm technical feasibility and standards across departments.
- Work with operations support and other teams to keep production operations robust.
- Find and drive process improvements that streamline and standardize workflow, communication, and resource use.

Qualifications

Education and experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent technology experience.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience designing, developing,



and implementing software projects using open-source services and frameworks.
- 10+ years of project management experience.
- 5+ years in retail systems development and delivery (highly valued).
- Experience creating and executing implementation strategies for complex systems.

Technical skills

- Experience with distributed Unix or Linux-based systems, J2EE application servers, clustered database systems, and source control systems.
- Understanding of delivery frameworks (Waterfall, Agile, DevOps, Lean) and when to apply each.
- Ability to estimate effort and impact across solutions, and to influence technical discussions and decisions.
- Ability to apply complex technical principles to solve a wide range of complex problems.

Leadership and communication

- Strong relationship management and understanding of organizational change management.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track and prioritize many tasks with a high sense of urgency.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, written, interpersonal, and listening skills.
