Job Title: Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
Experience: 8-10 years
Location: Bangalore
Work Mode: WFO
Salary: Competitive
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) ensures production systems are reliable, scalable, and performant while enabling rapid, safe delivery of changes. This role blends software engineering with systems engineering to automate operations, reduce toil, and codify infrastructure. You will design, build, and operate cloud-native platforms (often Kubernetes) with strong observability, incident response, and capacity planning. The SRE partners closely with developers to define SLOs/SLIs, enforce error budgets, and drive reliability-focused improvements. Expect meaningful on-call participation, blameless postmortems, and continuous optimization of cost, performance, and security.
Required Qualifications
- 4-10 years total experience in SRE/DevOps/Production Engineering with direct ownership of internet-scale or business-critical services
- Hands-on with at least one major cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP); strong grasp of networking, load balancing, and managed services
- Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes; EKS/GKE/AKS); familiarity with Helm and autoscaling
- Linux administration, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS; troubleshooting with system and network tools
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred; Ansible/CloudFormation as plus); Git-based workflows
- CI/CD pipelines and release strategies (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions; blue/green, canary, rollback)
- Observability: metrics, logs, tracing (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, OpenTelemetry); alert design and tuning
- SRE principles: SLI/SLO/Error Budgets, capacity planning,
incident response, runbooks, blameless postmortems
- Automation and scripting (Python or Go; Bash) to reduce toil and build self-service tooling
- Security and compliance basics: IAM/roles, secrets management (Vault/KMS), least privilege, vulnerability management
- Database and messaging familiarity (e.g., MySQL/PostgreSQL/Redis/Kafka) for reliability, backups, and failover
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, documentation; comfort with on-call rotation
- Nice-to-have certifications: AWS SysOps/DevOps, Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, CKA/CKAD
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate resilient, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes platforms
- Define and measure SLIs/SLOs, manage error budgets, and drive reliability improvements with product/engineering teams
- Implement Infrastructure as Code and automation to provision, configure, and update environments consistently
- Establish end-to-end observability (metrics, logs, traces) and actionable alerting; reduce alert noise and MTTR
- Lead and participate in on-call rotations, incident triage, communication, and blameless postmortems with clear RCAs
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines enabling secure deployments (canary, blue/green) with fast rollback
- Optimize performance, capacity, and cloud costs (autoscaling, rightsizing, caching) and plan for growth
- Harden security posture: IAM, network segmentation, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and compliance controls
- Create high-quality documentation and runbooks; mentor peers and advocate SRE best practices across teams
- Continuously reduce toil through automation, self-service tooling, and process improvements
