Equity Research Analyst - Investments Desk A domestic insurance company modernising its operations team, and adding research depth to the equity side of its investments desk

Location: Remote (India)

The desk and the money it manages The insurer's investments team manages policyholder and shareholder funds, including unit-linked funds where equity performance is visible to customers every day. The equity desk is three fund managers and two analysts covering a portfolio of large and mid-cap listed companies, run within regulatory investment limits and an internal approved-securities framework. The company has partnered with Flexiple to hire an Equity Research Analyst to take over coverage of a set of sectors.

Coverage this analyst will own

- Primary coverage of 15 to 20 listed companies across two sectors, likely financials and consumer, with others shared
- Building and maintaining three-statement models, updating them within a day or two of quarterly results
- Writing initiation notes and short result updates with a clear view: add, hold or exit, and why
- Attending management calls and analyst meets, and recording the takeaways for the fund managers
- Preparing stock papers for the investment committee when a company is proposed for the approved list
- Monitoring exposure, concentration and rating triggers alongside the mid-office and risk teams

What the role asks of a candidate





- 2 to 6 years in equity research on the buy side or sell side, or in a research support role with real model ownership
- Robust accounting fundamentals and comfort valuing companies on earnings, book value or cash flows as the sector demands
- Explicit, short writing; the investment committee reads the first paragraph and decides whether to read the rest
- CA, CFA (any level) or an MBA in finance; NISM research analyst certification or willingness to obtain it

Helpful, not essential Coverage of banks or insurers, familiarity with how insurance investment regulations shape portfolio choices, and experience presenting to a committee.

How the desk works A hybrid pattern, in the office on market-heavy days and around results season. The desk is small, so analysts present directly to the fund managers and, for larger positions, to the investment committee. Research is used for long-horizon policyholder money, so the emphasis is on quality of business and downside, not trading calls.

The selection route A screening conversation with Flexiple, a modelling and note-writing case on a listed company, a technical discussion with the head of equities, and a final round with the chief investment officer and HR.
