At CIS, learning begins with meaningful experiences and encourages children to question, explore, apply, and reflect. We want children to feel safe to express themselves, make mistakes, and discover their strengths. Our teachers are thoughtful facilitators who nurture each child’s individuality while maintaining clear expectations and purposeful classroom routines.

Role Description

We are looking for an English Teacher cum Subject Coordinator for Grades 1–4 who can build confident communicators, thoughtful readers, and expressive writers while guiding the development of English teaching across the primary grades.

This role combines classroom teaching with subject leadership. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons, support fellow teachers, and ensure a explicit progression of English skills from Grade 1 to Grade 4.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Teaching and Learning

- Plan and deliver lessons that develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening through stories, conversations, games, role-play, and purposeful practice.
- Introduce lessons through a relevant activity, question, or experience, then connect it clearly to the concept and learning outcomes.
- Use textbooks as a foundation, supported by meaningful activities, varied reading materials, and opportunities to apply English in everyday situations.
- Build vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, pronunciation, and foundational literacy through age-appropriate,

contextual teaching.
- Make spoken English a regular part of classroom learning, giving every child opportunities to participate, present, discuss, and ask questions.
- Develop a love of reading and encourage children to express original ideas in speech and writing.
- Include simple reflection prompts that help learners explain what they understood, how they approached a task, and what they could try differently.
- Adapt instruction and support to different learning needs, abilities, and levels of confidence.
- Create a warm, inclusive classroom with clear routines and respectful behaviour expectations, where mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn.
- Assess learning through observation, conversations, classroom tasks, and written work; use findings to provide specific feedback and plan next steps.

English Subject Coordination

- Develop and coordinate the English curriculum, annual plans, and skill progression across Grades 1–4.
- Support teachers in creating practical lesson plans with clear outcomes, engaging activities, and checks for understanding.
- Review lesson plans, learning resources, and assessments to ensure appropriate challenge, continuity, and alignment with CIS pedagogy.
- Facilitate collaborative planning, classroom observations, and constructive feedback to strengthen teaching practice.

- Guide consistent assessment practices and review student work with teachers to identify learning gaps and plan support or enrichment.
- Develop shared resources and lead meaningful reading, storytelling, creative writing, and spoken English initiatives.
- Collaborate with other subject teachers to create relevant opportunities for language development across the curriculum.
- Communicate clearly with school leadership and parents about learning progress, strengths, and areas requiring support.

Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field; B.Ed. or relevant teacher training preferred.
- Experience teaching English at the primary level, with an understanding of how young children develop language and literacy.
- Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to model clear, natural, and respectful communication.
- Strong skills in lesson planning, differentiated instruction, assessment, and positive classroom management.
- Ability to translate curriculum goals into engaging, practical classroom experiences.
- Experience in curriculum planning, mentoring teachers, or subject coordination preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and confidence using educational technology where it meaningfully supports learning.
- A collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and commitment to continuous professional growth.
- A strong commitment to child wellbeing, inclusive education, and respectful relationships.
