Engineering Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead engineering execution, people development, and operational performance across six engineering pods.

Our enterprise platform is evolving from a mature Java, WildFly, Hibernate, and SQL Server stack toward Spring Boot, Angular, and clearer service and data ownership. You will lead and develop six hands-on Engineering Leads, improve delivery predictability and engineering quality, and coordinate management-level responses to significant production incidents.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role focused on building strong teams, enabling technical leaders, and delivering reliable outcomes—not project management or status reporting.

What You’ll Do

- Lead people and performance: Coach, develop, and evaluate six Engineering Leads; support hiring, succession planning, staffing, and team growth.
- Drive execution: Improve delivery predictability, resolve cross-team dependencies, manage delivery risks, and coordinate recovery plans across six pods.
- Balance priorities: Align engineering capacity across product delivery, platform modernization, automation, quality, and reliability.
- Strengthen production reliability: Coordinate significant L3 escalations, mobilize engineering resources, and ensure root-cause analysis and permanent fixes are completed.
- Improve engineering outcomes: Track delivery lead time, escaped defects, rework, change failures, recurring incidents, and automation effectiveness.
- Enable modernization: Partner with Principal and Staff Engineers to translate approved technical direction into achievable engineering plans.




- Build cross-functional alignment: Work with Product, Delivery, DevOps, and Support to manage dependencies, technical risks, and incident handoffs.

What You’ll Bring

- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on technical experience.
- 4+ years of engineering people management experience, ideally including leadership of technical leads.
- Proven ability to coach engineering leaders, build accountable teams, and manage performance and talent development.
- Strong technical understanding of Java enterprise applications, Spring Boot, APIs, SQL, distributed systems, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Experience managing delivery across multiple teams and resolving complex dependencies, capacity constraints, and execution risks.
- Sound production engineering judgment, including incident escalation, recovery coordination, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Product and Delivery while maintaining clear ownership of engineering execution.
