EMS Firmware Developer / Embedded Firmware Engineer

Role Overview

- We are looking for an experienced EMS Firmware Developer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development, preferably in Renewable Energy, BESS, Microgrid, Energy Management System (EMS), or Power Electronics applications.
- The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end firmware development, integration, testing, debugging, and deployment of EMS firmware and communication interfaces with BESS and renewable-energy devices.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, integrate, and maintain EMS embedded firmware for BESS, renewable energy, and microgrid applications.
- Own the complete firmware development life cycle: requirement analysis, architecture/design, coding, compilation/build, unit testing, integration testing, debugging, system validation, release, deployment, and maintenance.
- Develop robust and optimized firmware using Embedded C / C++.
- Develop and integrate communication interfaces with BMS, PCS, energy meters, PV inverters, EV chargers, controllers, and other field devices.
- Implement and debug Modbus RTU/TCP, CAN/CAN FD, I²C, SPI, and UART interfaces.
- Develop device drivers, communication stacks, protocol handling, data acquisition, control logic, alarms, and state machines.
- Work with hardware, system engineering, application software, and testing teams for complete system integration.
- Analyse communication logs and troubleshoot firmware, protocol, and device-integration issues.
- Optimize firmware for reliability, performance, memory utilization, and real-time operation.
- Support commissioning and troubleshooting of EMS/BESS systems at project sites when required.
- Maintain firmware documentation, software releases, configuration files,



communication maps, and technical specifications.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, debugging, and continuous improvement.

Required Technical Skills

- Robust hands-on experience in Embedded C and good working knowledge of C++.
- Strong understanding of pointers, structures/unions, memory management, interrupts, timers, state machines, concurrency, data structures, bit manipulation, and fault handling.
- Strong embedded firmware development and debugging experience.
- Experience with bootloader, firmware upgrade, configuration management, and version control is preferred.
- Knowledge of real-time embedded systems and RTOS concepts is an advantage.

Communication Protocols

- Hands-on experience with Modbus RTU / Modbus TCP, CAN / CAN FD, I²C, SPI, and UART.
- TCP/IP and Ethernet-based communication experience is an advantage.

EMS / Renewable / BESS Domain Experience

- Practical experience in Renewable Energy, BESS, Microgrid, PCS, or EMS projects.
- Experience integrating BMS, PCS, energy meters, PV inverters, EV chargers, protection/control devices, and other industrial field devices.
- Good understanding of BESS system architecture and interaction between EMS, BMS, PCS, Meter, Grid, PV, and Load.

Development Environment

- Experience with Linux and Windows-based firmware development environments.
- Hands-on experience with firmware compilers, build systems, and compilation tools.
- Experience with debugging tools, serial terminals, protocol analysers,



CAN tools, and other embedded development tools.
- Familiarity with Git or other version-control systems.
- Automated build/CI experience is an advantage.

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred Experience

- Experience with EMS / Microgrid Controller / BESS Controller development involving BMS + PCS + Meter + PV Inverter + Grid + Load + EMS is highly desirable.
