About the Role
As a Build, CI & Toolchain Engineer, you are responsible for operating, evolving, and safeguarding the BMW Continuous Integration (BCI) build ecosystem for DxE and TEE embedded software projects. The role ensures that every software change is automatically built, integrated, validated, and assessed against defined quality criteria across all hierarchy levels — from single software components up to complete ECU projects.
You work with a multi-stage CI architecture based on BCI and EaBuild, enabling fast developer feedback while protecting overall system stability. By managing Greenlatest mechanisms, milestone branches, content approvals, and automated quality gates, you ensure reproducible, predictable, and audit-ready software deliveries in complex automotive environments.
Your Responsibilities
- Operate and continuously improve the BCI-based CI infrastructure, including Jenkins masters, build agents, and dashboards.
- Implement and maintain the BCI multi-stage integration concept (TEAM and Greenlatest jobs) across SWC, CPS, PE, and project levels.
- Ensure correct orchestration of EaBuild build stages such as Sanity, Config, Create, Build, QGate, and Publish.
- Maintain and optimize the Greenlatest mechanism to guarantee stable and reproducible integration baselines.
- Support and govern content approval processes across all hierarchy levels to enable controlled software releases.
- Manage milestone concepts, including creation, activation, deactivation, and reactivation of milestone branches.
- Support bug-fix deliveries by reactivating released milestones and coordinating corrected rebuilds and deliveries.
- Implement and refine skipped-build mechanisms to reduce CI runtime and infrastructure load where artifacts already exist.
- Ensure consistency and traceability between BCI, PROSPR, ASCENT-SVN, and Artifactory throughout build and release workflows.
- Integrate, validate, and rollout build toolchains, compilers, and software quality tools into the BCI environment.
- Safeguard functional neutrality and regression stability when introducing tool or infrastructure changes.
- Operate CI monitoring and dashboards, providing transparency on build status, quality metrics, and integration health.
- Support CI users and integrators in analyzing build failures, quality regressions, and integration issues.
What You Bring
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
- Solid hands-on experience with CI/CD systems in large-scale, multi-project environments.
- Solid understanding of multi-stage CI concepts, Greenlatest mechanisms, and milestone based software delivery.
- Experience with Jenkins-based infrastructures and automated build orchestration.
- Good knowledge of embedded software build processes, quality gates, and artifact management.
- Structured, analytical, and quality-oriented working style with a high sense of responsibility.
- Ability to communicate complex CI and build concepts clearly to developers, integrators, and stakeholders.
Desirable
- Practical experience with BMW Continuous Integration (BCI) and EaBuild environments.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR-based embedded software toolchains.
- Experience with Artifactory, SVN-based configurations, and JSON-driven CI job generation.
- Familiarity with CI monitoring tools and dashboards (e.g. Grafana, Teamscale).
- Automotive embedded software background with a DevOps-oriented mindset.
