Role & responsibilities

Position Overview The BESS Lead will provide technical and managerial leadership for PMC monitoring of the grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) package from equipment delivery and installation through system integration, energization, performance testing and Handover & Taking Over (HOTO).

The role will lead the PMC BESS discipline team and coordinate closely with the Client, OEM, EPC/contractor and other project disciplines to ensure that the BESS package is delivered safely, in accordance with approved design and contractual requirements, and is ready for energization and guaranteed performance testing.

The BESS Lead will provide independent PMC oversight, identify and escalate package risks, coordinate cross-discipline interfaces and submit verified readiness and HOTO recommendations to the PMO BESS Lead.

Key Responsibilities

1. BESS Package Leadership & PMC Governance

- Lead day-to-day PMC monitoring and governance of the BESS package.
- Direct BESS PMC discipline resources and establish explicit priorities, interfaces and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate Client, OEM, EPC/contractor and internal PMC interfaces.
- Monitor package progress against approved schedules, milestones, contractual obligations and commissioning targets.
- Consolidate package-level issues, recommendations, risks and recovery requirements for PMO and Client review.

1. BESS Construction & Installation Monitoring

- Monitor delivery, installation and readiness of BESS battery containers and associated systems.
- Oversee PMC monitoring of PCS, transformers, MV switchgear, LV systems, auxiliaries, HVAC and fire protection/fire suppression systems.
- Verify construction completion, quality records, inspection requirements and readiness for commissioning.
- Monitor installation activities for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, OEM requirements and applicable standards.
- Identify construction risks that could affect energization, performance testing or HOTO.

1. Electrical & System Integration

- Provide technical leadership for BESS electrical interfaces and integration activities.
- Coordinate monitoring of PCS,



MV equipment, transformers, protection systems and auxiliary electrical systems.
- Ensure appropriate coordination between BESS electrical systems and plant/grid interfaces.
- Oversee PMC review of EMS/BMS/SCADA integration through the BESS Electrical Engineer.
- Monitor communication, controls, protection and system-integration readiness required for energization and performance testing.

1. Battery Safety, Fire Safety & HSE

- Monitor implementation of battery safety requirements throughout installation, commissioning and testing.
- Ensure PMC oversight of fire detection, fire alarm, fire suppression and associated safety systems.
- Review compliance with applicable BESS safety requirements, OEM safety procedures and project HSE standards.
- Maintain awareness of applicable requirements including NFPA 855 and relevant fire-safety practices.
- Escalate safety-critical issues that may affect energization, commissioning or operation.

1. Commissioning & Performance Testing

- Coordinate BESS commissioning readiness across electrical, controls, civil, mechanical, HSE and grid-interface disciplines.
- Review commissioning plans, procedures, test packs and readiness documentation.
- Monitor energization readiness and ensure outstanding critical issues are appropriately closed or accepted before energization.
- Monitor integrated system testing involving battery systems, PCS, EMS/BMS/SCADA, protection and grid interfaces.
- Monitor performance testing against contractual requirements, approved test procedures and guaranteed performance criteria.
- Identify deviations and coordinate corrective actions with the OEM/contractor.

1. Schedule, Quality, Risk & Compliance

- Review BESS package schedule, progress, quality, HSE,



delivery and commissioning risks.
- Monitor critical-path activities and potential impacts to project milestones and COD.
- Track technical and commercial risks affecting BESS delivery and performance.
- Review warranty, compliance and documentation requirements relevant to the BESS package.
- Support development of recovery plans and corrective action strategies where required.

1. Client & Stakeholder Management

- Act as the primary PMC technical interface for BESS package matters.
- Participate in progress meetings, technical reviews, risk reviews, commissioning meetings and readiness assessments.
- Present verified package status, key risks, decisions required and recovery actions to Client/PMO.
- Coordinate with grid authorities and other project stakeholders where BESS interfaces affect energization or grid compliance.
- Ensure package recommendations are evidence-based, technically coordinated and aligned with contractual requirements.

1. HOTO & Closeout

- Monitor completion of punch-list, commissioning and performance-test requirements.
- Verify readiness of BESS documentation, test records, certificates, warranties and O&M; deliverables.
- Track outstanding technical and contractual closeout actions.
- Prepare and submit verified BESS HOTO readiness recommendations to the PMO BESS Lead.
- Support final package closeout and transition to operations.

Accountability Boundary The BESS Lead is accountable for PMC monitoring, technical coordination, governance and readiness recommendations for the BESS package. The OEM/contractor retains responsibility for physical installation, software configuration, system operation, commissioning execution and guaranteed performance in accordance with the applicable contract.
