About the Role The Senior Database Administrator will own the database platform across a hybrid Oracle and PostgreSQL environment. The primary focus will be PostgreSQL, with strong working knowledge of Oracle. The role covers database performance, availability, backup and recovery, and architecture decisions for production financial systems.

Key Responsibilities Database Administration and Performance Own PostgreSQL (primary) and Oracle (RAC/ODA) production environments, including capacity planning, patching, and upgrades. Perform in-depth query and index tuning. Design partitioning strategies for high-volume tables, accounting for platform differences.

Backup, Recovery and Disaster Recovery Own backup and recovery using open-source PostgreSQL tools such as pgBackRest, Barman, or WAL-G. Design and test disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) setups using Patroni and Data Guard.

Own Recovery Point

Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) targets and failover runbooks. CDC and Migration Configure and troubleshoot Change Data Capture (CDC) pipelines using Debezium, Striim, or GoldenGate. Apply working knowledge of Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration, including schema conversion, query rewrites, and cutover planning.

Automation and CI/CD Automate routine operations using Python, Shell, or Ansible. Build and maintain database CI/CD processes, including version-controlled schema changes and automated migration pipelines using Liquibase or Flyway. Monitoring and Observability Build and maintain database monitoring and observability using pgBadger, OEM, and Prometheus/Grafana.

Tune alerting thresholds to identify problems early.

Security





Implement encryption at rest and in transit, access control, and auditing across both database platforms. Architecture and Mentorship Own architecture decisions independently. Mentor junior DBAs. Communicate risks and trade-offs clearly to leadership and other teams.

Production Support

Participate in the on-call rotation for critical incidents outside regular working hours.

Required Skills 7–10 years of DBA experience, with strong PostgreSQL expertise and solid Oracle knowledge, including RAC, ASM, and Data Guard. Working knowledge of Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration. Hands-on experience with CDC tools; Debezium is preferred.

Experience with backup and recovery using open-source PostgreSQL tools.

Experience in DR/HA design and conducting actual drills, not just theoretical knowledge. Solid performance tuning skills (non-negotiable) and partitioning expertise. Understanding of database security and encryption.

Experience with database CI/CD and schema version control.

Experience with monitoring and observability tools. Scripting experience in Python or Shell. Strong communication skills, with a track record of mentoring and owning architecture decisions.

Preferred Experience BFSI or fintech experience is preferred. Nice to Have Exposure to cloud-hosted databases.

Experience on an Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration project. Familiarity with database activity monitoring tools such as Guardium.
