Salary Range: $46,123 - $57,868/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits. New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

Seeking a Maintenance Service Worker I to perform custodial maintenance of courtrooms, administrative offices, lavatories, and related facilities including: washing of walls and windows; dust, mop, sweep, scrub, wax and buff floors; collect and dispose of rubbish and trash; perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to buildings and equipment; replace loose floor tiles; spot patches and paint; attach shelving; move furniture; put up bulletin boards and pictures; operate hand and power equipment; perform routine grounds care, e.g. cutting grass, shoveling snow; help a skilled worker by passing tools, carrying or lifting materials and running errands; may operate motor vehicles; perform other related duties as required.

This position will be assigned to the Bridgeport Juvenile Residential Center, as such it is considered hazardous duty for retirement purposes. Incumbents may be exposed to risk of injury from assaultive or abusive detainees; they may be exposed to communicable diseases.



Maintenance staff will be trained to assist in physical interventions should it become necessary to intervene in such an event, though maintenance staff will never be asked to initiate a physical intervention.

CLASS DEFINITION: Under the supervision of a Building Supervisor or a Maintenance Service Worker 3, performs assigned semi-skilled tasks in the following areas: building maintenance, grounds care and custodial services

Custodial maintenance of courtrooms, administrative offices, lavatories, and related facilities including: washing of walls and windows; dusts, mops, sweeps, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors; collects and disposes of rubbish and trash; performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to buildings and equipment; replaces loose floor tiles; spot patches and paints; attaches shelving; moves furniture; puts up bulletin boards and pictures; operates hand and power equipment; performs routine grounds care, e.g. cutting grass, shoveling snow; helps a skilled worker by passing tools, carrying or lifting materials and running errands; may operate motor vehicles; performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Any combination of education, experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties listed above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Candidates may be required to possess and maintain a valid CT Motor Vehicle’s Operator’s License.
