Build an AI-native company from the early days
One of Swiss Founders Fund’s fast-growing portfolio ventures is hiring a junior software engineer to join its founding engineering team.
The company is building an AI-native product and preparing its Y Combinator application. We are looking for someone who can help build and scale the product through its next stage: a strong engineer who learns quickly, works independently, and takes responsibility for getting things shipped.
“Junior” refers to your career stage. We still expect strong technical fundamentals, initiative, and evidence that you can build working software. Personal projects, open-source contributions, internships, freelance work, and previous startup experience all count.
What you’ll do
- Build and ship features for the core product, from understanding the problem through implementation, testing, and release.
- Develop APIs, backend services, database integrations, and user-facing functionality where needed.
- Integrate AI models and third-party services, and assess whether they work reliably in practice.
- Investigate bugs, improve performance, and help the product handle growing usage.
- Write clear, maintainable code and use tests where they meaningfully reduce risk.
- Work directly with the founders and engineering team to make practical technical decisions.
- Communicate progress, flag blockers early, and follow through without needing constant supervision.
What we’re looking for
- Evidence that you can build. You have created working software and can explain your contribution, technical choices, and what you would improve.
- Strong fundamentals. You understand APIs, databases, debugging, version control, and how the different parts of a web application fit together.
- Depth in at least one language or framework. You can do more than follow a tutorial and are comfortable learning the tools the product needs.
- Independent problem-solving. You can break down an unfamiliar problem,
investigate options, and make progress. You also know when to ask for help.
- Fast, thoughtful learning. You seek feedback, apply it, and take the time to understand why something works.
- Practical judgment. You care about code quality and can balance it with the need to ship.
- Clear communication. You can explain your thinking in English and collaborate reliably with a remote team.
- A consistent part-time commitment. You can agree on a working schedule and deliver reliably alongside your other commitments.
A Computer Science degree is welcome, but not required. The quality of your work and how you think matter more than credentials.
Practical, but not required
- Experience building with LLM APIs or other AI tools.
- Experience deploying and maintaining an application used by other people.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, automated deployments, monitoring, or application security.
- Previous work in a small startup team.
If you use AI coding tools, you should be able to review, debug, and explain the code they produce. You remain responsible for what you ship.
Why join
- Join the founding engineering team and contribute directly to the core product.
- Work closely with the founders and see how product and technical decisions are made.
- Take ownership of meaningful work early in your career.
- Help shape the engineering foundations of a growing AI-native company.
This role will suit someone who enjoys early-stage work: priorities can change, requirements will not always arrive fully defined, and you will need to bring ideas as well as execute them.
