REDS™ · Rubenius Experiential Design System
AV Systems & Control Engineer
Why this role exists
Every REDS product ends up on real hardware. Two layers are missing: one control system that runs a whole site from one panel, and monitoring that reports device health before a client notices. You own the AV, display and control layer and write the repeatable AV blueprint every project starts from.
REDS products and your work on them
Central AV control app — control architecture on Crestron, Q-SYS or Extron; scene list; expose to web panel over TCP/UDP, OSC, PJLink, Art-Net
REDS Smart Conference Rooms — room-size standards, equipment lists, control templates; commission cameras, beamforming mics, DSP
REDS Command Experience Center — video-wall controller and KVM design, redundancy, signal routing, wall layouts for live data
LED screens & video walls, Collage LED Wall — pixel pitch and processor selection (NovaStar, Colorlight), pixel maps, calibration, media servers, touch/LiDAR overlays
Digital lobbies and immersive theatres — signal flow, audio DSP, speaker layout, show-control integration
Transparent OLED, holographic film, hologram booth, anamorphic walls — hardware selection, players, low-latency streaming, installation detail
Kinetic displays, Nexmosphere, kiosks, E-ink — power, data and control integration; BrightSign player set-up
REDS XOS / Workplace platform / AI Support Agent — device and network layer: player enrolment, VLANs, remote access, SNMP/API telemetry into XOS
Key responsibilities
Produce AV designs: signal-flow schematics, rack layouts, cable/equipment schedules, BOQs
Write and maintain REDS AV/Tech Blueprint templates per project type
Program control on Crestron (SIMPL/SIMPL#), Q-SYS (Designer, Lua) or Extron, including touch panels and timed show sequences
Set up LED processors, video matrices, media players,
audio DSP
Design AV-over-IP and site networks: VLANs, multicast, Dante/AES67, Wi-Fi, secure remote access
Connect every device to XOS and the AI Support Agent via APIs, SNMP, TCP/IP, RS-232
Lead installation, testing, commissioning; hand over with training, as-built drawings, maintenance schedules
Evaluate hardware, keep the standard equipment list, help build the vendor panel
Tools and stack at REDS
Control — Crestron, Q-SYS, Extron; custom web control in Node.js/React
Display/video — NovaStar, Colorlight, video-wall controllers, laser projectors, BrightSign/Windows players
