Job Description — Nursing Staff Position: Staff Nurse / Nursing Officer Department: Nursing Location: RoopJeevan Hospital, Raipur Reporting To: Nursing In-charge / Hospital Administrator / Duty Doctor Shift: Rotational shifts, including night duty Key Responsibilities 1. Patient Care Provide nursing care to admitted patients as per doctor’s orders and hospital protocols. Monitor and record vital signs, pain, intake/output and other relevant observations. Administer medicines, injections, IV fluids and other treatments correctly and on time. Assist doctors during procedures, rounds and emergencies. Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care. Identify and immediately report any deterioration in the patient's condition. 2. Medication & Treatment Follow the 5 Rights of Medication Administration — right patient, drug, dose, route and time. Maintain proper medication records and ensure timely administration. Check medicines, expiry dates and storage conditions. Report medication errors or adverse reactions immediately. 3. Documentation Maintain complete and accurate nursing notes. Update patient files, medication charts, vital charts and nursing records. Ensure all required consent forms and checklists are completed. Maintain proper handover between shifts. 4. Infection Control Follow hand hygiene and standard infection-control practices. Use PPE appropriately. Maintain cleanliness and aseptic technique during procedures. Follow hospital protocols for biomedical waste segregation. 5. Patient & Attendant Communication Communicate politely and professionally with patients and attendants. Explain routine nursing procedures to patients. Respond promptly to patient needs and complaints. Escalate clinical or non-clinical concerns to the appropriate person. 6.
Emergency & OT Support Respond promptly to medical emergencies and call the duty doctor when required. Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and crash cart. Assist during CPR and other emergency procedures. Assist OT team during surgeries as assigned. 7. Shift Responsibilities Take proper handover from the previous shift. Check all assigned patients at the beginning of the shift. Ensure medicines, IV lines, catheters, drains and dressings are properly maintained. Complete all pending nursing documentation before handing over the shift. Do not leave the assigned duty area without proper handover/permission. Key Accountability The Staff Nurse will be responsible for: Patient safety Timely medication and treatment Accurate nursing documentation Proper shift handover Infection-control compliance Prompt escalation of abnormal findings Professional behaviour with patients and attendants Qualifications GNM / B.Sc. Nursing Valid nursing registration Freshers may be considered; hospital experience preferred Experience in secondary-care/hospital nursing will be an advantage Skills Required Good clinical and observation skills Basic emergency/CPR knowledge Positive communication skills Ability to work rotational and night shifts Teamwork and discipline Ability to maintain accurate documentation Performance Indicators Nursing staff will be evaluated on: Medication errors / omissions Documentation completeness Timeliness of patient care Infection-control compliance Patient/attendant feedback Shift handover quality Attendance and punctuality Compliance with hospital SOPs Emergency response Overall patient safety Important: Nursing staff are expected to report any abnormal patient finding immediately to the duty doctor/senior nurse and not wait until the next round.
