JOB DESCRIPTION – SENIOR MECHANICAL DRAUGHTSMAN

JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Draughtsman with strong expertise in HVAC drafting, ducting layouts, ventilation systems, kitchen exhaust systems, and mechanical shop drawings, preferably in the interior fit-out, retail, commercial interiors, and Food & Beverage (F&B;) industries. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and coordinating detailed mechanical drawings for retail outlets, restaurants, cafés, food courts, commercial kitchens, and other fit-out projects. The role involves ensuring technical accuracy, proper service routing, and installation feasibility; coordinating mechanical services with interior design and other MEP disciplines; incorporating design revisions; preparing as-built drawings; supporting site execution; and guiding junior draftsmen to ensure quality and timely delivery of drawings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Prepare, review, and coordinate detailed HVAC layouts, ducting drawings, ventilation layouts, and mechanical equipment layouts for retail outlets, restaurants, cafés, food courts, and commercial interior fit-out projects.
- Develop kitchen exhaust, fresh-air supply, and ventilation drawings for restaurants and commercial kitchens based on approved engineering designs and project requirements.
- Prepare mechanical shop drawings, working drawings, sections, elevations, and installation details for HVAC systems and other mechanical services.
- Review duct sizes, duct routes, equipment locations, ceiling heights, access clearances, and service routing to ensure installation feasibility.
- Coordinate mechanical drawings with architectural layouts, interior design drawings, reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), electrical, plumbing, and fire-fighting services.
- Coordinate HVAC ducting and equipment locations with lighting fixtures, ceiling designs, joinery, furniture layouts, and other interior elements.
- Identify and resolve clashes between ducts, pipes, ceilings, beams, structural elements, electrical services, and other MEP systems.
- Ensure mechanical drawings are technically accurate, coordinated, and suitable for site installation and execution.
- Incorporate design revisions, consultant comments, client requirements, site feedback, and approved changes into mechanical drawings.




- Prepare and update as-built drawings that accurately reflect approved site modifications and final installation conditions.
- Review engineering inputs, project specifications, and equipment details to ensure consistency across mechanical drawings.
- Coordinate with MEP engineers, HVAC engineers, interior designers, project managers, contractors, and site teams to clarify drawing requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Verify dimensions, levels, duct sizes, equipment clearances, access requirements, and drawing references before submission.
- Support coordination meetings and assist in resolving mechanical service-routing, ceiling coordination, and installation-related issues.
- Assist in preparing material take-offs and quantity calculations for ducting, insulation, diffusers, grilles, dampers, and other mechanical components, as required.
- Maintain drawing registers, revision histories, submission records, and technical documentation.
- Ensure drawings are updated, reviewed, and submitted within project schedules and deadlines.
- Guide junior mechanical draftsmen, review their drawings, and ensure compliance with project standards and drafting practices.
- Support BIM-based coordination and clash detection activities where applicable.
- Coordinate with kitchen equipment suppliers and other relevant vendors to integrate mechanical services with equipment layouts and installation requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

- Solid proficiency in AutoCAD for preparing, modifying, and reviewing mechanical and HVAC drawings.
- Knowledge of Revit MEP, BIM modelling, and clash detection tools will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of HVAC systems, ducting layouts, ventilation systems, and mechanical equipment arrangements.
- Experience in preparing kitchen exhaust and fresh-air ventilation layouts for restaurants and commercial kitchens will be preferred.
- Experience in preparing mechanical shop drawings, working drawings, sections, elevations, and installation details.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, reflected ceiling plans, mechanical layouts, engineering specifications, and technical documentation.




- Understanding of duct sizing, service routing, equipment clearances, access requirements, and installation constraints.
- Knowledge of MEP coordination and clash resolution involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting, and interior design elements.
- Ability to coordinate mechanical services within restricted ceiling spaces and around joinery, lighting, and other interior components.
- Experience in preparing as-built drawings and managing drawing revisions.
- Strong technical detailing, dimensional accuracy, drawing review, and quality control skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills to work with engineers, consultants, contractors, designers, vendors, and site teams.
- Ability to guide junior draftsmen, review technical drawings, and maintain consistent drafting standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple drawing tasks and meet project deadlines.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical drafting, HVAC drafting, or MEP design coordination.
- Experience in interior fit-out, retail, commercial interiors, hospitality, restaurants, cafés, or F&B; projects will be preferred.
- Hands-on experience preparing HVAC layouts, ducting drawings, ventilation layouts, mechanical equipment layouts, and shop drawings.
- Practical knowledge of kitchen exhaust and fresh-air systems for commercial kitchens will be an advantage.
- Experience coordinating mechanical drawings with interior design, electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting, and architectural teams.
- Experience in ceiling coordination, service clash identification, and installation planning for fit-out projects.
- Experience in preparing as-built drawings, incorporating revisions, and resolving site-related technical queries.
- Previous experience reviewing drawings and guiding junior mechanical draftsmen will be preferred.
- Knowledge of Revit MEP, BIM modelling, and clash detection will be an added advantage.
- Experience handling fast-track retail, restaurant, café, food court, or commercial fit-out projects will be beneficial.
- Strong understanding of drawing standards, technical documentation, quality control, and project submission schedules.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
