ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING CONCEPTS PRIVATE
Mumbai
To develop distinctive, technically sound and commercially viable architectural-lighting solutions while building trusted long-term relationships with architects, designers and clients.
The role may include responsibility for selected established key accounts, with the objective of maintaining and deepening those relationships, identifying opportunities arising from them and ensuring continuity across projects.
This is a client-facing lighting-design role and is not intended to be a purely back-office position.
- Understand the architecture, materiality, spatial experience and intended use of a space before developing the lighting approach.
- Engage directly with architects, interior designers, lighting designers and clients to understand both the stated brief and the underlying design requirement.
- Participate confidently in meetings with existing as well as new clients.
- Develop clear lighting concepts rather than simply prepare fixture layouts.
- Select and apply appropriate lighting techniques and luminaires based on visual comfort, performance, architectural intent and project requirements.
- Develop solutions using ALC's represented brands in an application-led rather than product-led manner.
- Present concepts and recommendations clearly and persuasively to architects and clients.
- Produce or guide the required lighting layouts, calculations, fixture schedules, specifications and design documentation.
- Maintain and develop relationships with key accounts assigned to them and remain aware of upcoming projects and opportunities within those accounts.
- Identify opportunities that arise naturally from established client relationships without being expected to undertake broad new-account prospecting.
- Work closely with the commercial team to progress suitable opportunities towards specification and successful project conversion.
- Protect lighting intent during value engineering while recognising project-budget and commercial realities.
- Maintain high levels of technical accuracy and minimise avoidable design, specification and coordination errors.
- Build strong professional relationships so that architects and designers increasingly regard both the individual and ALC as trusted lighting advisers.
- Maintain continuity with clients throughout the design and specification process rather than limiting involvement to the production of drawings or calculations.
Client Communication and Relationship Development
Comfortable meeting architects and designers, asking intelligent questions, explaining a point of view, presenting design thinking clearly and developing trusted qualified relationships over time.
Technical and Application Rigour
Understands optics, lighting applications, visual comfort, calculations and specification sufficiently to translate design concepts into deliverable solutions.
Solution-Led Thinking
Begins with what the project requires rather than with the products available to sell.
Client-Facing Responsibility
Client interaction is an essential part of this role.
The successful candidate should be comfortable:
- meeting architects and designers they have not previously worked with;
- leading design discussions;
- asking questions rather than simply responding to instructions;
- explaining and defending lighting decisions;
- receiving criticism and adapting solutions intelligently;
- and building long-term professional trust.
The objective is not simply to produce good design work internally but to become someone architects and designers actively value having involved in their projects.
Key Account Responsibility
Where selected key accounts are assigned to the Lighting Designer, the expectation is to maintain and deepen the existing relationship, understand upcoming projects and identify opportunities arising from that relationship.
The role does not require broad prospecting for unrelated new accounts. New-account development remains primarily with ALC's business-development function.
The Lighting Designer will work with the appropriate commercial and technical teams to ensure that opportunities within assigned accounts are progressed effectively.
Preferred Background
Relevant experience may come from:
- architectural-lighting design;
- lighting manufacturers;
- specialist lighting consultancies;
- architectural or interior-design practices with substantial lighting exposure;
- or similar specification-led design environments.
Formal qualifications in lighting, architecture, interior design, engineering or a related discipline are useful, but demonstrated design ability and application knowledge will carry greater weight.
Working knowledge of relevant lighting-design, calculation, CAD and presentation tools is expected. Specific software can be trained where the candidate demonstrates strong underlying design ability.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
Benefits:
- Paid sick time
- Provident Fund
