Rooted in India and connected globally, the Foundation brings together science, medicine and the humanities to understand how people think, learn, make decisions and live. Its work includes research, policy briefs, educational resources and practical programmes that strengthen human capability, wellbeing and dignity, with particular attention to the needs and realities of the Global South.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Bengaluru, with a consolidated salary of ₹70,000 per month.

The Research Associate will coordinate a study examining whether a structured approach inspired by clinical diagnostic reasoning can improve judgement in intelligence analysis. Working directly with Dr Pravin Thomas and research collaborators, the successful candidate will help take a detailed study plan through preparation, pilot testing, data collection and publication.

Responsibilities include developing and editing research cases from published investigation reports; coordinating case writers and independent fact-checkers; preparing ethics submissions and participant materials; and organising participating institutions, recruitment and experimental sessions. The role also involves coordinating the study platform, maintaining datasets and documentation, protecting study blinding and confidentiality, and supporting analysis and manuscript preparation.

Alongside the study,



the Research Associate will contribute to Masthishkam Foundation’s wider activities, including research syntheses, policy briefs, proposals, partner communications and programme coordination.

Qualifications

- A postgraduate degree in cognitive science, psychology, behavioural science, neuroscience, public health or a related discipline.
- Practical experience conducting human-participant research, preferably behavioural experiments or studies of judgement and decision-making.
- Understanding of experimental design, participant recruitment, research ethics, informed consent and data management.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical software such as R, Python or SPSS.
- Excellent written English, with the ability to interpret complex reports, verify sources and develop clear, accurate research materials.
- Ability to implement a study protocol carefully, maintain blinding and confidentiality, and document procedures and deviations.
- Robust organisational skills, including coordinating collaborators, managing timelines and following tasks through to completion.
- Experience with online experimental or survey platforms, ethics applications and academic publications would be an advantage.
- Interest in cognitive security, reasoning under uncertainty and translating research into practical resources.
