Senior SQL Server DBA – Performance Engineering & Production Support
Company: Team-oriented Mind LLC (CMIND)
Product: DataSync
Location: India, Remote (NIGHT SHIFT)
Experience: 10–12+ years preferred
Role: Full-time, hands-on technical position NIGHT SHIFT
Role Overview
CMIND is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior SQL Server DBA to take responsibility for database administration, performance engineering, production troubleshooting, and operational reliability of the DataSync platform.
The ideal candidate should be capable of independently diagnosing complex SQL Server performance issues, optimizing stored procedures, managing high-volume databases, and supporting SQL Server deployments across customer-managed environments.
This role requires a strong combination of traditional database administration and advanced SQL Server performance engineering.
Key Responsibilities
1. SQL Server Administration
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server instances on Windows virtual machines.
- Manage SQL Server configuration, memory, CPU, storage, tempdb, and database properties.
- Administer SQL Server Agent jobs, scheduled maintenance, and operational alerts.
- Perform database health checks, integrity validation, and capacity planning.
1. Performance Engineering
- Analyze actual and estimated execution plans.
- Troubleshoot long-running queries, stored procedures, and database performance degradation.
- Diagnose memory-grant pressure, RESOURCE_SEMAPHORE waits, CPU bottlenecks, and excessive I/O.
- Analyze blocking, deadlocks, lock escalation, and transaction isolation issues.
- Use Query Store, DMVs, Extended Events, and wait statistics to identify root causes.
- Optimize indexes, statistics, stored procedures, and database configurations.
- Investigate parameter sniffing, cardinality estimation, and execution-plan regressions.
- Improve performance under high-volume, concurrent application workloads.
1. Data Management and Partitioning
- Design and maintain table partitioning strategies where appropriate.
- Manage historical data archival and retention.
- Optimize large-table maintenance and data purging.
- Support database growth management and storage optimization.
- Ensure data integrity during maintenance and archival operations.
1. Production Support and Reliability
- Independently investigate and resolve critical database production incidents.
- Perform root-cause analysis and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Implement proactive database monitoring and alerting.
- Establish performance baselines and database health dashboards.
- Work with application development teams to diagnose end-to-end performance problems.
- Support customer-managed SQL Server environments and collaborate with customer infrastructure teams.
1. Backup, Recovery and Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
- Perform point-in-time restores and recovery validation.
- Support disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Establish and validate recovery objectives.
- Troubleshoot backup failures and database corruption issues.
1. Database Change and Release Management
- Review and deploy database schema changes, stored procedures, indexes, and other database objects.
- Assess performance and functional risks of database changes.
- Develop deployment and rollback procedures.
- Support release validation and post-deployment monitoring.
- Coordinate database changes with application engineering and production support teams.
1. Database Security
- Manage database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.
- Apply SQL Server security best practices.
- Support encryption, auditing, and security hardening.
- Ensure database configuration complies with customer security requirements.
Required Technical Skills
- Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2017/2019/2022 or comparable supported versions
- Advanced T-SQL
- SQL Server Management Studio
- SQL Server Query Store
- SQL Server execution-plan analysis
- Dynamic Management Views (DMVs)
- Extended Events
- SQL Server Agent
- SQL Server performance counters
- Index and statistics management
- Backup and restore
- Database security
- Windows Server / VM-based SQL Server administration
- Production incident troubleshooting
Preferred Skills
- Table partitioning and partition switching
- Large transactional database optimization
- PowerShell scripting
- SQL Server Always On Availability Groups
- Azure SQL Database / Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Database automation and monitoring tools
- Experience supporting .NET enterprise applications
Candidate Profile We are looking for a hands-on DBA who:
- Can independently diagnose production database issues.
- Understands SQL Server internals rather than relying solely on maintenance scripts.
- Can explain execution plans and memory-grant behavior.
- Has experience supporting high-volume, concurrent applications.
- Can work directly with development and infrastructure teams.
- Communicates clearly during critical incidents.
- Takes ownership of problems through resolution.
- Can recommend preventive engineering improvements.
This is not a database monitoring or routine maintenance-only position. The individual must be technically capable of resolving complex production performance problems.
Success Criteria
Within the first 90 days, the DBA should:
1. Complete a baseline assessment of DataSync database environments.
2. Identify the top database performance and reliability risks.
3. Establish monitoring for memory grants, blocking, deadlocks, expensive queries, and database health.
4. Review critical DataSync stored procedures and indexing strategies.
5. Document backup, restore, and disaster recovery readiness.
6. Establish database change-management and production troubleshooting procedures.
7. Deliver a prioritized database optimization and reliability roadmap.
