About the role icconX is seeking an experienced, hands-on speaker R&D; professional with strong knowledge of acoustics, speaker components, product testing, and technical sourcing. The person should be able to evaluate speaker samples in depth, identify technical weaknesses, and judge sound quality, reliability, and build quality against the product’s target price. The role covers compact portable speakers through larger and premium speaker systems, including wooden/MDF and plastic injection-moulded enclosures.

Key responsibilities

- Teardown and technically evaluate speaker samples, including component identification, construction quality, and likely reliability.
- Test and compare acoustic performance using suitable measurement tools and listening evaluation.
- Interpret measurements such as frequency response, SPL, impedance, distortion, sensitivity, and other relevant acoustic results.
- Identify weaknesses in drivers, amplifier circuits, power supplies, batteries, enclosure design, assembly, and tuning; recommend practical improvements.
- Evaluate driver selection, enclosure acoustics, crossover or DSP tuning, and overall sound quality.
- Assess wooden/MDF and plastic injection-moulded enclosures for acoustic performance, resonance, fit, finish, durability, and build quality.
- Compare sample performance, reliability,



and component choices against target price and intended product positioning.
- Evaluate component options and technical sourcing alternatives; document quality, availability, and performance trade-offs.
- Support prototype testing, production validation, and quality checks with relevant manufacturing partners.
- Prepare explicit sample-comparison reports, test results, technical recommendations, and product specifications.
- Help establish repeatable product-test and quality-validation procedures.

Requirements

- Hands-on experience in speaker R&D;, electro-acoustics, or audio-product development; experience limited to repair, installation, or sales is not sufficient.
- Practical exposure to both compact portable speakers and larger or premium speaker systems.
- Strong knowledge of speaker drivers, amplifier circuits, power supplies, batteries, and enclosure construction.
- Experience with acoustic measurement tools and the ability to interpret test results.
- Working knowledge of wooden/MDF and injection-moulded plastic speaker enclosures.
- Ability to judge product quality, reliability, and value at different price points and explain the reasoning clearly.
- Evidence of involvement in evaluating samples, prototypes, or speaker products through to production validation.
