Position: Biology Lab Assistant

Reports To: Biology Teacher / Science Lab In-Charge

Job Summary The Biology Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting biology teachers in preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, specimens, models, chemicals, and other teaching resources. The role ensures the biology laboratory is clean, well-organized, safe, and ready for practical sessions in accordance with school safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist biology teachers in preparing and setting up laboratory experiments and practical sessions.
- Arrange and maintain laboratory equipment, microscopes, glassware, specimens, charts, and models.
- Prepare and organize slides, biological specimens, and other teaching materials as required.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, hygiene, and proper storage of equipment and materials.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and school safety policies.
- Maintain inventory records of laboratory equipment, chemicals, specimens, and consumables.
- Monitor stock levels and inform the concerned department about replenishment requirements.
- Ensure proper labelling, storage, and disposal of laboratory materials and biological waste as per safety guidelines.
- Assist teachers and students during practical activities under appropriate supervision.
- Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, and laboratory maintenance requirements.
- Maintain laboratory registers, records, and documentation.
- Support science exhibitions, demonstrations, and other school science activities.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology,



or a related life science field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a school biology laboratory or science laboratory is an advantage.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment, biological specimens, microscopy, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Good organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students.
