EV IPR & Innovation Engineer Patent & Technology

Role Overview The EV IPR & Innovation Engineer will bridge EV technology, R&D; innovation and intellectual property protection. The role will identify patentable innovations, conduct technology and patent landscape analysis, support patent drafting and prosecution, and help protect the organization’s EV technology portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Patent Mining & Innovation

- Collaborate with R&D;, Engineering and NPD teams to identify and document patentable EV innovations.
- Conduct invention harvesting across battery systems, BMS, e-motors, inverters, power electronics, V2X, charging and vehicle control systems.
- Prepare invention disclosures and technical documentation.

IP Analytics & Patent Searches

- Conduct prior-art, novelty, patentability, invalidity and Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) searches.
- Perform patent landscape and technology-mapping studies using platforms such as Derwent Innovation, Orbit and other patent databases.
- Analyse patent claims, specifications, citations, classifications and technology trends.





Patent Prosecution & Portfolio Management

- Coordinate with patent attorneys and IP consultants for patent drafting, filing and prosecution.
- Support responses to office actions and technical clarifications.
- Maintain patent portfolios, filing trackers and technology/IP documentation.

Competitive Intelligence

- Monitor competitor patent filings and emerging EV technologies.
- Prepare competitive IP intelligence reports to support R&D; strategy, product development and technology-risk assessment.
- Identify potential IP risks, white spaces and technology opportunities.

Candidate Profile

- 3–5 years of combined experience in EV/automotive R&D;, IP analytics, patent research or technology innovation.
- Strong understanding of EV architecture, BMS, battery systems, power electronics, electric motors, embedded systems or charging technology.
- Working knowledge of patent databases, CPC/IPC classification and global patent-search methodologies.
- Familiarity with patentability, novelty, FTO and prior-art analysis.
- Robust technical writing, analytical, documentation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Patent/IPR certification or formal IPR/Patent course will be an added advantage.
