REDS™ by Rubenius ·

Embedded Systems & IoT Engineer

ABOUT US

Rubenius has designed experiential spaces and workplaces for over 20 years. REDS™ (Rubenius Experiential Design System) is our division that builds immersive experience centres, innovation labs and phygital installations — spaces where screens move, walls respond to touch and tables recognise the objects placed on them. We design, fabricate and install in-house, with teams across Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Dubai.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS

Every REDS space is measured after launch, and that depends on sensors that are specified and commissioned before handover. Our physical products also need their own electronics: a screen that knows its position on a rail, wall panels that move, a table that knows what sits on it. You will own the sensor, controller and motion layer, working closely with our fabrication team.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

- Sensor kits — Nexmosphere-based kits per use case, serial API bridge, trigger mapping from XOS (our experience operating system), event logging to AWS
- Kinetic displays — stepper/servo drives, motion control, homing and limit switches, safety interlocks, timecode sync
- Sliding screens — position sensing (encoder or laser distance), stable position feed, rail electronics, end-stops
- Object-recognition table — capacitive markers or NFC, multi-reader antenna layout under glass, tagged objects
- Interactive light walls — addressable LED (WS2812, DMX) drive and power design, capacitive touch, firmware
- E-ink smart displays — low-power firmware, LoRa/4G/Wi-Fi, battery and solar budgets,

OTA via AWS IoT Core
- Post-launch measurement kit — sensor selection, edge gateway, clean data published to XOS over MQTT
- VR haptic training and future products — custom controllers, pressure and motion sensing

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design circuits and PCBs (KiCad or Altium) for sensor interfaces, LED drivers and motor controllers
- Select components for 24/7 public use: power budgets, protection, thermal margins; prototype and run small batches
- Write firmware in C/C++ for ESP32, STM32 and Arduino-class boards; Raspberry Pi where Linux is needed
- Integrate RFID/NFC, capacitive, IR, ToF/LiDAR, load cell, radar and Nexmosphere modules
- Drive steppers, servos and actuators safely, with homing, limits and fault handling
- Connect devices to AWS IoT Core and XOS over MQTT, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and BLE, with remote monitoring, configuration and OTA updates
- Report device health and usage events to our support monitoring system
- Fit electronics into joinery and metalwork with the fabrication team; install, calibrate and document on site, to electrical safety standards

TOOLS AND STACK

- Hardware — ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, Nexmosphere, BrightSign GPIO/serial
- Design and debug — KiCad or Altium, oscilloscope,

logic analyser
- Motion — stepper and servo drivers, linear actuators, encoders
- Connectivity — MQTT, AWS IoT Core, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, BLE, LoRa, RS-232/485, DMX
- Languages — C/C++, Python for test tools

MUST HAVE

- 3–6 years in embedded systems or IoT product development
- Strong C/C++ firmware on microcontrollers
- Circuit design, PCB layout and hands-on debugging
- Motor control and sensor integration, including fail-protected design (interlocks, homing, fault states)
- MQTT and at least one cloud IoT platform
- B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics or equivalent

NICE TO HAVE

- AWS IoT Core or Greengrass
- BrightSign or digital signage hardware
- Mechatronics or kinetic installations
- Low-power, battery or solar design
- Python test tools and data logging

We don't expect you to be expert in everything above on day one. We're looking for real depth in firmware and PCB design, and the appetite to grow into the rest.
