Purpose of the Role The key purpose of this role is to support the design, implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) capabilities, with a specific focus on Material Master and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) data. The role ensures accurate, consistent, and compliant master data through effective governance processes, business rules, workflows, validations, and system integrations.
The role combines functional and technical expertise to enable efficient master data creation, change management, data quality improvement, and integration with SAP S/4HANA and related systems. It supports business process efficiency, downstream operations, reporting, analytics, and compliance through reliable and well-governed master data.
Key Accountabilities
- SAP MDG Implementation and Support: Support the design, configuration, development, testing, and maintenance of SAP MDG solutions for Material Master and EAM objects.
- Master Data Governance: Implement and maintain governance processes for material, equipment, functional location, equipment BOM, and other relevant EAM master data objects.
- Business Rules and Validations: Configure and maintain business rules, field validations, derivations, mandatory field checks, duplicate checks, and data quality controls using SAP MDG, BRF+, and relevant enhancement frameworks.
- Workflow Management: Design, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance MDG workflows, approval processes, agent determination, and change request routing.
- Functional and Technical Configuration: Support MDG data models, UI configuration, field properties, change request types, number ranges, value mappings, and other relevant configuration components.
- SAP Integration: Support integration between SAP MDG and SAP S/4HANA/ECC, including replication, APIs, IDocs, DRF, and relevant interfaces.
- Master Data Quality: Analyse data quality issues, identify root causes, implement preventive controls, and support data cleansing, standardisation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Requirements and Solution Design: Engage with business stakeholders, process owners, data stewards, and technical teams to gather requirements, prepare functional specifications, and translate business needs into scalable solutions.
- Testing and Deployment: Prepare and execute unit, integration, regression, SIT, and UAT scenarios; support defect resolution, release deployment, cutover, hypercare, and production support.
- EAM Data Governance: Ensure appropriate governance, validation, and integration of equipment, functional locations, equipment BOMs, and other in-scope maintenance master data.
- Data Migration and Transformation: Support master data mapping, field-level transformation, legacy-to-target alignment, number range considerations, reconciliation, and migration validation.
- Incident and Change Management: Analyse and resolve MDG-related incidents, enhancement requests, workflow failures, replication issues, and master data defects within agreed SLAs.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain functional and technical documentation, configuration records, test evidence, operating procedures, and reports on governance performance, data quality, and issue resolution.
- Strong knowledge of SAP MDG, particularly Material Master governance and the MDG data creation/change lifecycle.
- Functional and technical understanding of SAP MDG architecture, data models, change requests, staging, active area, and data replication.
- Hands-on experience with SAP MDG configuration, including data model configuration, UI modelling, field properties, and change request configuration.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting BRF+,
business rules, validations, derivations, and workflow logic.
- Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Material Master, including material types, views, field selection, organisational levels, number ranges, and key master data dependencies.
- Understanding of SAP EAM master data, including equipment, functional locations, equipment BOMs, and related maintenance master data objects.
- Knowledge of SAP PM/EAM integration with Material Master and other relevant SAP modules and business processes.
- Experience with SAP technical objects such as tables, data elements, domains, structures, BADIs, user exits, and enhancement frameworks.
- Understanding of SAP integration technologies, including APIs/OData, IDocs, DRF, BAPIs, and interface monitoring.
- Ability to perform root-cause analysis, debug functional issues, analyse error logs, and collaborate with ABAP and integration developers.
- Experience in data migration, mapping, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and data quality improvement.
- Knowledge of SAP PLM and its integration with Material Master and product-related data processes is an advantage.
- Understanding of SAP authorisations, audit controls, governance standards, and change management practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical solutions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across business, data governance, functional, and technical teams.
- Robust communication, stakeholder management, documentation, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate, high-quality outcomes under pressure.
