Role & responsibilities

- Obstetric anesthesia: Provide anesthesia and pain relief during normal delivery (epidural, where available) and cesarean sections.

- Gynecological surgeries: Administer anesthesia for procedures such as hysterectomy and other gynecological operations.

- Pediatric anesthesia: Provide secure anesthesia for infants, newborns, and children undergoing surgery.

- Pre-anesthesia assessment: Review medical history, allergies, investigations, and fitness for anesthesia before surgery.

- Intraoperative monitoring: Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and breathing.

- Postoperative care: Manage pain, nausea, and recovery after anesthesia.

- Emergency management: Respond to obstetric emergencies, difficult airways, severe bleeding, and other critical situations.

- Team coordination: Work closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatologists, surgeons, nurses, and operating theatre staff.

- Documentation: Maintain anesthesia records, consent documentation, and postoperative monitoring records.
