By joining the Technology team in the GCC you will play a direct role in Officeworks’ global digital transformation, contributing to world-class capabilities that sit at the heart of how the business operates and grows. Why this role exists:

The AI Engineer orchestrates the technical agents that produce code, tests, documentation and design mock-ups within a pod delivery model. The role translates product specifications into functional instructions for AI agents, running multiple agent workstreams in parallel across standard-complexity work while holding the pre-production commit gate for routine changes.

The role evolves how engineering is executed. AI agents carry a significant share of test generation, documentation and code execution, while the AI Engineer remains fully accountable for system design judgement, code review, quality and all commitments to production. The role relies on AI-driven test coverage, agent-supported execution and human-in-the-loop validation to maintain high release standards.

In this role you will:

Agent Orchestration and Delivery:

- Translate product specifications from the Product Orchestrator into functional specifications and instructions that AI agents can execute, clarifying intent where requirements are ambiguous.




- Run multiple technical agents in parallel across standard-complexity work (coding, test case generation, documentation and visual design mock-ups) sequencing outputs so one stream is usable by the next.
- Apply base context, security policies, architecture patterns and coding standards established by the platform team to every agent run.
- Improve agent workflows continuously, sharing prompt techniques, context improvements and automation patterns across pods.

Review, Quality Engineering, and Commit Gate:

- Hold the pre-production commit gate on routine changes, ensuring no code reaches production without thorough review.
- Perform rapid and accurate reviews of generated code, tests and specifications, identifying subtle errors, logical defects or plausible but incorrect outputs.
- Confirm that instructions given to technical agents have been executed to the expected standard before committing code.
- Design and execute test strategy for assigned workstreams, including functional integration and regression testing, building on AI-generated test coverage and agent-supported execution.
- Identify, document, and track defects to resolution, communicating severity and coordinating fixes with technical and functional stakeholders.
- Own non-functional outcomes for assigned workstreams, including performance, resilience, accessibility and security, and confirm architectural fit before commit.
- Escalate complex, high-risk or major architectural changes to the Senior AI Engineer or Principal AI Engineer for higher-level review.

Context, Documentation and Knowledge Management:

- Verify that technical documentation exists and is accurate, maintaining documentation as an active input to subsequent agent runs rather than an after-the-fact record.
- Maintain knowledge artefacts for workstreams so future code and agent outputs draw on detailed, reusable domain context over time.
- Contribute domain knowledge back to shared context repositories in line with central standards managed by Context Engineers.
- Maintain explicit system provenance to distinguish agent-generated components from human-authored code.

Production Support and Continuous Improvement:

- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve reported defects and incidents promptly across the platform domains the pod touches, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Support and maintain existing platforms, integrations and legacy services alongside agent-based delivery flows during technical transition periods.
- Execute production verification testing during post-deployment and hypercare periods, confirming release quality before handover to steady-state support.
- Report observed drift, hallucinations or specification failures in agent tooling to Agent Integrity Engineers.

Who you will be working with:

- Product Orchestration: Clarify specification intent and raise technical feasibility or workstream sequencing considerations with Product Orchestrators.
- Engineering Leadership: Seek higher-level review for complex or high-risk changes from Senior AI Engineers,



Principal Domain Engineers, and Associate Engineering Managers.
- Architecture and Context Teams: Apply platform context libraries and feed domain knowledge back to Context Engineers, Solution Architects and Domain Architects.
- Platform and Integrity Specialists: Report agent drift or hallucination to Associate AI Agent Evaluation Engineers and collaborate with Platform Engineers on workflows and permissions

Qualifications and work experience:

Essential:

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 6-8 years of software engineering experience, combining full-stack development with hands-on software quality assurance and testing across manual and automated methodologies.
- System Design Judgement: Demonstrated system design judgement to assess whether AI-generated code and technical output are fit for purpose, performant, and secure.
- Agent Orchestration : Practical experience or strong capability in orchestrating AI agents and developer tooling across parallel workstreams.
- Specification Literacy: Proven ability to write clear, precise functional specifications and prompts that produce accurate agent output.
- Quality Engineering: Demonstrated experience designing and executing test strategy (test planning, functional, integration and regression testing, test automation and defect management) across the software delivery lifecycle.
- Code Review Discipline: Experience conducting fast, accurate code reviews and managing pre-production commit gates, with an ability to identify plausible but incorrect logic.
- Operational Resilience: Experience supporting services in production, including incident handling and participating in on-call rotations across complex cloud architectures.

Preferred:

- Retail Commerce Architecture: Experience working with modern headless retail platforms and commerce developer tooling.
- Observability Tooling: Familiarity with modern log management and observability tooling such as Sumo Logic or Datadog.
- Cloud and CI/CD Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS), Docker containerization, Git workflows, and modern CI/CD pipelines
