Process & Project Engineer – Greenfield Acrylic Binder Plant
Rajaswi Chemical Mfg. Ind. Pvt. Ltd. · Ahmedabad (plant site at Bareja) · Full time
A consulting engagement can be considered for very senior candidates.
About us
Rajaswi Chemical has made textile chemicals in Ahmedabad since 1984. We are now building our first acrylic emulsion plant: a 5 KL greenfield unit at Bareja making acrylic binders for textile pigment printing and warp sizing.
The role
We are looking for one engineer who can take this plant from an empty 1,400 sq yd plot to a running batch. That means designing the process, engineering the plant, getting it approved, building it and commissioning it. You will own the plant end to end, working directly with the promoter-director and an experienced UK polymer consultant.
What you'll do
Process design
- Turn the lab recipe and the consultant's recommendations into a plant-scale process: batch cycle, monomer pre-emulsion and feed strategy, initiator dosing and temperature profile.
- Prepare mass and energy balances.
- Size the reactor, jacket, agitator, reflux condenser, pre-emulsion and dosing tanks, and receivers.
- Calculate heat removal for the polymerisation exotherm, and design emergency relief and venting for a runaway scenario.
- Plan lab-to-plant scale-up and the first trial batches.
Plant engineering
- Prepare PFDs, P&IDs;, equipment datasheets and the plant layout.
- Size utilities: heating, cooling tower or chiller, DM water, nitrogen, compressed air and power.
- Define hazardous-area classification, flameproof electrical requirements, monomer storage and the tank farm.
- Lead the HAZOP and safety review.
- Fit plant, utilities, storage and effluent treatment onto a compact site.
Approvals
- Prepare technical documentation for GPCB consent (CTE and CTO), DISH factory plan approval, fire NOC,
and PESO or hazardous-chemical storage permissions.
Procurement and construction
- Write equipment specifications and RFQs, and evaluate quotations technically and commercially.
- Inspect fabrication at vendor works: SS 316L, welding and hydro tests.
- Coordinate civil, PEB, piping, electrical and instrumentation contractors, and supervise erection on site.
Commissioning
- Commission utilities and equipment, and run water trials and the first batches.
- Hand over a working plant with SOPs, batch records and maintenance schedules.
Who we're looking for
- Education: B.E. or B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. An M.Tech or polymer specialisation is a plus.
- Experience: 10+ years in emulsion polymer manufacturing (acrylic, styrene-acrylic or VAM emulsions) for paints, adhesives, construction chemicals, textiles or paper.
- A plant you've built: you designed, or played a lead role in building, at least one emulsion or resin plant that is running today. Tell us which one and what you personally did.
- Process calculation skills, not just operations: you can size a condenser and explain why.
- Software: hands-on with AutoCAD. Plant 3D, Aspen or CHEMCAD is a plus.
- Approvals: working knowledge of Gujarat statutory approvals for chemical units.
- Site skills: comfortable with fabricators and contractors on site, in Gujarati and Hindi as well as English.
- Safety first, by instinct.
What we offer
- Ownership of a greenfield plant from first drawing to first batch.
- Direct access to the promoter-director, with no layers in between.
- A path to Plant Head as the binder business grows.
- Salary: [as per experience]
To apply: send your CV with a one-page note on the best plant you've built: its capacity, what you designed, and one problem you solved during commissioning.
Pay: Up to ₹800,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
