Sustainable Urban Association (SAU) works to understand how cities function, co-create solutions with communities, and sustain long-term urban well-being. Through research-driven initiatives, SAU addresses urban social, environmental, and economic challenges by integrating evidence, community knowledge, and institutional engagement.

Project Baavdi is an initiative focused on documenting Mumbai’s historic dug wells and exploring their significance in urban water heritage, groundwater, and climate resilience. The project combines field research, community narratives, and spatial documentation to strengthen understanding of the city’s water systems.

Role Description

The Research Volunteer will support Project Baavdi through field-based research, documentation, and community engagement. Responsibilities include collecting field data, conducting interviews, documenting historic wells, reviewing literature, organizing research findings, and assisting in the preparation of reports, maps, presentations, and research briefs.





Volunteers will also engage with local communities and relevant stakeholders to document oral histories and understand the cultural, environmental, and social significance of Mumbai’s traditional water systems.

Qualifications
- Candidates from MSW, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Environmental Studies, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
- Freshers are welcome; prior experience is not mandatory.
- Basic research, documentation, and communication skills.
- Interest in urban water heritage, sustainability, and community-based research.
- Willingness to undertake field visits and engage with local communities in Mumbai.
- Knowledge of Marathi or Hindi is an advantage.
