Expectations:

We need a hands-on InstallShield packaging engineer to develop and maintain installation packages our project. We are looking for someone who has created MSI and EXE installers using InstallShield—not someone whose experience is limited to repackaging existing installers.

Must-have experience

- Solid practical experience with InstallShield Basic MSI and Suite/Advanced UI projects, including authoring, implementing, developing, building, debugging, and maintaining .ism and .issuite projects. [Basic MSI and Suite Project types]
- Proven experience creating MSI packages and EXE bootstrapper bundles from application and component requirements.
- Good understanding of Windows installation behaviour, including services, registry, file and folder permissions, environment variables, prerequisites, 32-bit and 64-bit considerations, and install contexts.
- Hands-on scripting ability with PowerShell, batch files, and InstallShield scripting/custom actions.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting install, uninstall, upgrade, repair, rollback, silent-install, and logging behaviour.
- Working knowledge of Git for version-controlling InstallShield projects and supporting scripts, reviewing changes, and managing branches and merges.
- Strong troubleshooting skills: can investigate installer logs and Windows behaviour, identify root causes, and implement and validate fixes.

Relevant to our project work The engineer should be comfortable building a Suite bundle that coordinates multiple packages and scripts, with attention to:

- Package order,



prerequisite handling, component detection, and install/uninstall dependencies.
- Reliable silent and interactive installation, status reporting, error handling, and rollback.
- Service setup and cleanup, certificates, user or group permissions, registry and PATH changes, and application configuration.
- Connecting the Basic MSI build to the Suite project and keeping source files, scripts, build steps, and release artifacts in sync.
- Supporting repeatable builds and release workflows, including validation of package inputs and outputs.

Personal qualities We need someone with strong logical thinking, attention to detail, ownership, and a practical problem-solving mindset. They should be able to take a packaging requirement from analysis through implementation and troubleshooting, communicate risks clearly, and work with application and release teams.

1. Which InstallShield projects have you personally authored: Basic MSI, Suite/Advanced UI, or both? What did you build?
2. Have you created an MSI and a Suite EXE that chains or coordinates multiple packages? Please describe your role.
3. How have you implemented and debugged install, uninstall, upgrade, rollback, and silent-install behaviour?
4. What PowerShell, batch, or InstallShield scripts have you written for packaging?
5. How have you used Git to maintain .ism, .issuite, and installer scripts?
6. Can you give an example of diagnosing a Windows installer issue using logs or system behaviour and carrying the fix through validation?

Key filter: Prioritize candidates who can explain their own InstallShield authoring and implementation work in detail. Experience that is only repackaging vendor installers does not meet the core requirement.
