About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help build OpenBlue, Johnson Controls' smart-building platform. You'll work as part of a cross-functional team, build features end to end with a good degree of independence, and share your knowledge with less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

- Develop features end to end, from design through to production, with minimal supervision.
- Contribute to technical design and design discussions for microservices, APIs and web applications.
- Build and maintain microservices, APIs and web applications.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code that follows team standards.
- Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and help mentor junior engineers.
- Run or support proofs of concept (PoCs) to evaluate recent technologies and approaches.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues in development, test and production environments.
- Follow secure coding practices and help keep solutions scalable and performant.




- Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up delivery.
- Work with product, UX, QA and DevOps teams across locations to plan and deliver work.

Requirements

- 6+ years of software development experience, including significant hands-on full stack work.
- Strong working knowledge of TypeScript, React and Node.js (NestJS preferred).
- Experience building REST APIs and designing PostgreSQL or other relational data models.
- Good understanding of microservices concepts; exposure to gRPC is a plus.
- Good understanding of web security, automated testing and CI/CD.
- Working knowledge of Docker; experience with Kubernetes, preferably on Azure, is a plus.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

- Exposure to Kafka, Redis or real-time data streaming.
- Experience working on multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Interest in or experience with IoT or building systems.
