Company Description The Centre of Excellence in Oil, Gas and Energy (CoEOGE) at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay was established in 2019 through an initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), with the Oil and Gas Public Sector Undertakings (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, OIL, ONGC, EIL, and GAIL) as partners and stakeholders.

The Centre's core mandate is to undertake problem-driven research addressing challenges in the oil, gas, and broader energy sectors. CoEOGE facilitates solution-oriented research projects for industry partners by bringing together expertise from various disciplines across the IIT Bombay faculty.

Role Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with solid experience in thermocatalytic hydrocarbon conversion and analysis of complex liquid hydrocarbon products to work on developing catalytic pathways for converting ethylene into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)-range hydrocarbons.

This is a full-time, on-site research position based at IIT Bombay, Mumbai.

The researcher will undertake experimental and analytical research involving ethylene oligomerization and subsequent upgrading to SAF-range hydrocarbons, with particular emphasis on catalyst development, product distribution, process optimisation, and detailed characterization of liquid fuels.

Job Profile:

- Conducting research in collaboration with faculty and industry partners, analysing and interpreting data, preparing technical reports and manuscripts, and presenting findings in internal reviews and external conferences.

Qualifications

- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Catalysis, or a related field.

Experience in -

- Experience in thermal/thermocatalytic hydrocarbon conversion, such as hydroprocessing, hydrocracking, hydroisomerization, olefin oligomerisation, or related processes.
- Strong hands-on experience in analysis of complex liquid hydrocarbon mixtures, particularly in the jet fuel/SAF/diesel-kerosene range.
- Proficiency in techniques such as GC/GC-MS, simulated distillation, and detailed hydrocarbon/speciation analysis; experience with GC×GC would be highly desirable.
- Experience in heterogeneous catalyst development and continuous-flow catalytic reactors.
