Ansible SME

Role Purpose

Provide deep Ansible engineering expertise to establish automation standards and convert the existing Chef automation estate into production-quality Ansible assets.

Key Responsibilities
Design and develop Ansible playbooks, roles and collections.
Analyze Chef cookbooks and define equivalent Ansible implementation patterns.
Support automated and AI-assisted Chef-to-Ansible conversion.
Review converted assets and perform required engineering/remediation.
Build reusable automation for OS hardening, provisioning, agent deployment and configuration management.
Support Linux and Windows automation.
Develop standards for variables, inventories, dependencies and reusable content.
Troubleshoot complex Ansible execution and migration issues.




Conduct peer/code reviews and establish Ansible engineering quality standards.
Mentor migration factory engineers.

Required Skills
Deep hands-on Ansible engineering.
Solid YAML, Python and shell/PowerShell scripting skills.
Linux and/or Windows configuration automation.
Git-based source control and CI/CD integration.
API/integration automation experience.
Infrastructure/configuration management experience.
Chef/Ruby experience strongly preferred because the source estate contains ~1,600 Chef cookbooks.

Preferred: Relevant Red Hat Ansible certification where available.
