hikeSlot is an outdoor adventure and travel platform built to simplify how hikers, weekend trekkers, and campers discover trails and connect with commercial organizers and fellow travelers. Outdoor organizers often promote trips through fragmented social media posts without clear, centralized batch schedules or upfront itineraries. hikeSlot solves this by providing a unified directory featuring detailed day-by-day itineraries, transparent costs, direct organizer communication channels, and community "Tag Along" pools for solo travelers.
As we grow, we are integrating intelligent systems to personalize trail discovery, predict outdoor trends, structure unstructured itinerary data, and elevate the traveler experience.
About the RoleWe are looking for a motivated and hands-on AI / Machine Learning Intern to work directly on real-world problems at the intersection of travel, community discovery, and recommendation systems. You will collaborate closely with the founding team to prototype, evaluate, and deploy intelligent features that make exploring trails seamless.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement recommendation algorithms to match travelers with relevant treks, weekend batches, and solo hiking companions.
- Build NLP/LLM pipelines to parse, extract, and structure outdoor itineraries and packing lists from unstructured formats (e.g., text, brochures, social posts).
- Work with spatiotemporal, weather,



and geographical data to assist in trail difficulty classification and batch feasibility insights.
- Clean, analyze, and build pipelines for user search behavior, interest patterns, and listing analytics.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to deploy lightweight ML models and API endpoints into production.

What We Are Looking For

- Strong foundational knowledge of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
- Proficiency in Python and modern ML/DL frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Hugging Face).
- Hands-on experience working with APIs, LangChain / LlamaIndex, or building RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications is a plus.
- Familiarity with database systems (SQL / PostgreSQL) and vector databases.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with an interest in outdoors, travel tech, or building early-stage products.
