Company: Kanha Metal Works (KMW)
Employment Type: Full time / Contractual
Location: KMW Workshop, Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad
Experience: 3–5 years preferred
Wage Type: Daily wages
1. Job Purpose
Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on metal components and assemblies
according to approved engineering drawings, welding procedures, and quality
standards. The role requires sound technical skills, accurate joint preparation,
consistent weld quality, safe equipment handling, and timely production.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Welding and Fabrication
● Perform TIG and MIG welding on sheets, plates, pipes, frames, brackets, and
fabricated assemblies.
● Weld mild steel and stainless steel; aluminium welding experience is an
advantage.
● Select appropriate filler materials, shielding gases, and consumables, and set
welding parameters according to approved procedures.
● Carry out tack, fillet, groove, and other specified welds within demonstrated
competency.
● Ensure correct joint preparation, alignment, fit-up, penetration, and fusion.
● Interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, joint types, and
welding positions; clarify discrepancies before starting work.
● Follow approved welding procedures and perform repairs only as authorised.
B. Quality and Certification
● Inspect joint preparation and completed welds for cracks, porosity, undercut,
excessive spatter, distortion, incomplete fusion, and other defects.
● Correct defects according to approved repair procedures and support
dimensional and quality inspections.
● Maintain required welding, inspection, and consumable records.
● Demonstrate practical proficiency in both TIG and MIG welding and work within
the limits of applicable qualifications and approved procedures.
● Provide certificates and qualification records for verification. Recognised welder
qualifications are preferred; relevant 4G or 5G qualifications are an advantage
where required by the job.
● Qualifications under applicable standards, such as ISO 9606, ASME, or AWS,
will be considered according to the assigned work and project requirements.
C. Equipment, Safety, and Production
● Set up and operate welding machines safely; check torches, cables, regulators,
hoses, connections, and gas supplies before use.
● Store and handle cylinders, filler materials, and consumables correctly; perform
authorised routine maintenance and report equipment defects or gas leaks.
● Use prescribed PPE, including a suitable welding helmet, gloves, protective
clothing, safety footwear, and eye protection.
● Follow hot-work, fire-prevention, ventilation, fume-extraction, electrical-safety,
and heavy-component handling procedures.
● Keep the workstation clean, remove hazards, and report incidents, near misses,
and unsafe conditions immediately.
● Coordinate with fitters, fabricators, helpers, machine operators, and supervisors
to meet schedules while reducing defects, rework, consumable wastage, and
component damage.
3. Qualifications and Experience
● ITI in Welder trade preferred; relevant vocational training or equivalent practical
experience may be considered.
● Preferably 2–5 years of industrial welding and metal fabrication experience.
● Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in both TIG and MIG welding is mandatory.
● Ability to read fabrication drawings, understand weld symbols, and perform
correct joint preparation.
● Knowledge of welding parameters, filler materials, shielding gases, inspection,
and common weld defects.
● Relevant recognised welding certifications are preferred and may be mandatory
for specific projects.
● Valid 4G or 5G qualifications are an advantage when applicable to the required
process, material, and welding position.
4. Required Skills
● Strong TIG and MIG welding capability with consistent workmanship.
● Drawing interpretation, dimensional accuracy, and defect identification.
● Safe handling of welding equipment, cylinders, and consumables.
● Ability to work independently, follow approved procedures, and coordinate with
production teams.
● Attention to detail, punctuality, safety awareness, and commitment to production
deadlines.
5. Wage and Employment Terms
Final wages will depend on practical test results, verified certification, welding quality,
material experience, independence, and job complexity. Payment will follow recorded
attendance and the agreed wage cycle. Working hours, overtime, weekly rest, leave,
and statutory benefits will follow company policy and applicable Indian labour laws.
6. Selection Process
1. Screen relevant experience and verify welding certificates and their scope.
2. Conduct practical TIG and MIG welding tests using representative materials and
joints.
3. Assess weld quality, drawing interpretation, joint preparation, machine setup, and
safety awareness.
4. Conduct additional 4G or 5G testing where required.
5. Final selection by an authorised KMW representative.
7. Performance Expectations
Produce welds that meet approved quality requirements, follow applicable welding
procedures and safety standards, minimise defects and rework, maintain equipment
responsibly, and complete assigned jobs within production timelines.
