A people mandate rooted in the plant

The Board seeks an independent director who understands that manufacturing succession is not confined to the CEO. Safe and secure operation depends on plant leadership, maintenance knowledge, process discipline, commercial relationships and the credibility of supervisors who translate policy into daily behaviour. The role combines NRC and Stakeholders responsibilities and will contribute to Board strategy around productivity, workforce resilience and resource efficiency.

The talent map the Board needs

The appointee will ask management to identify positions where retirement, attrition or local knowledge loss could interrupt production, quality, safety, customer service or statutory compliance. Successors should be assessed through demonstrated assignments. The NRC will review technical career paths, supervisor capability, contractor dependency, diversity, labour-relations readiness and the availability of leaders who can operate across plant and commercial boundaries.

The committee will distinguish emergency cover from developed readiness and examine whether promoter, professional and independent leadership roles are clear. Board renewal should be based on the company's future risks rather than customary tenure alone.

Reward and culture

Production volume, cost and dispatch targets can create unintended pressure on maintenance, quality, inventory, resource compliance or reporting. The director will test the scorecard at plant level and examine whether near misses, grievances and control exceptions are escalated without career penalty. Long-term reward should recognise cash, reliability, capability and sustainable operating improvement.
