The ideal candidate will design, build and optimize core parts of KiviDB, an open-source, Redis-compatible in-memory database written in Rust. You will write explicit, well-tested, performant code, profile and benchmark your changes, and iterate until they hold up under real production workloads. You will also work with our open-source community and cloud customers to troubleshoot issues, review contributions and turn real-world feedback into improvements.
Responsibilities
• Design, implement and test features in the database engine, including commands, data structures, persistence, replication and clustering
• Write clear, safe and efficient Rust code, and review code from the team and open-source contributors
• Profile, benchmark and optimize performance across throughput, latency and memory use
• Detect, reproduce and fix bugs, including concurrency and correctness issues
• Maintain compatibility with the Redis protocol and its client ecosystem, using existing test suites to verify behavior
• Support customers and community users by troubleshooting issues in their deployments
• Contribute to technical design discussions, documentation and the project roadmap
Qualifications
• 3+ years of software development experience, including production experience with Rust
• Solid understanding of concurrency and multithreading, and of async Rust (Tokio or similar)
• Experience with systems programming: memory management, networking and performance tuning
• Strong debugging and profiling skills (perf, flamegraphs or similar tools)
• Familiarity with Redis or other key-value or in-memory databases, and with how they are used in production
• Comfortable working in a public codebase, with clear written communication in issues and pull requests
Nice to have
• Experience with database internals: storage engines, persistence, replication or consensus
• Knowledge of io_uring, Linux internals or kernel-level networking
• Experience with vector search, full-text search or indexing stru
