We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Engineer to oversee end-to-end quality control and inspection activities for static equipment manufacturing, including ASME pressure vessels, columns, and TEMA shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
The ideal candidate will manage incoming raw material verification, stage-wise fabrication inspections, welding quality controls, NDT coordination, pressure testing, and final documentation. This role requires close liaison with Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIA), Authorized Inspection Agencies (AIA), Authorized Inspectors (AI), and client representatives to ensure strict compliance with ASME Section VIII Div. 1 & 2, Section IX, Section V, Section II, TEMA, and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities &
• Duties1.
Inward Material
Inspection &
• Traceability
- Perform incoming inspection of raw materials (plates, pipes, forgings, tubes, welding consumables, fasteners, gaskets) against Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) per EN 10204 Type 3.1 / 3.2.
- Verify mechanical properties, chemical composition, impact test results at MDMT, and supplementary requirements (e.g., ultrasonic testing per SA-578 / SA-388).
- Supervise hard stamping, stenciling, color coding, and transfer of heat numbers prior to cutting/shearing to maintain 100% material traceability throughout fabrication.
2. Fabrication & • Dimensional Inspection
- Conduct fit-up and dimensional checks for shell rolling courses, dished heads, concentric/eccentric cones, nozzles, and structural supports (saddles, skirt, legs) per approved General Arrangement (GA) and fabrication drawings.
- Check formed heads and rolled shells for out-of-roundness, peaking, banding, crown/knuckle contours, and ovality per ASME UG-80, UG-81, and tolerance sheets.
- Inspect tubesheet drilling, reaming, tube pitch, hole serrations/grooves, and baffle layouts.
- Witness and record tube-to-tubesheet joint assembly,
expanded/welded mock-ups, expansion torque/percentage reduction, and seal/strength welding.
3. Welding & • NDT Quality Control
- Ensure shop floor compliance with qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) per ASME Section IX.
- Monitor pre-heating, interpass temperature, post-weld baking, flux/gas purity, and heat input parameters.
- Review Radiographic Testing (RT) films, Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) reports per ASME Section V and acceptance criteria of ASME Section VIII (UW-51/UW-52).
- Maintain welder rejection rate tracking, non-destructive examination logs, and root cause analysis for any weld repairs.
4.
Pressure
Testing, Heat Treatment &
- Surface Finishing
- Witness and inspect hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests per ASME UG-99/UG-100 and client specifications (verifying test gauge calibration, chloride limits in water, soaking times, and vent hole checks on reinforcement pads).
- Coordinate Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) and verify temperature-time charts, thermocouple placement, heating/cooling rates, and soaking temperatures per UCS-56.
- Inspect surface preparation (blast cleaning per Sa 2.5 / SSPC-SP10) and painting systems (DFT checks, adhesion testing, surface profile measurement).
5. Documentation, Audits & • Client/AIA Coordination
- Prepare, update, and follow approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITP / Quality Assurance Plans - QAP).
- Coordinate stage-wise inspection calls and hold points with AIA / Authorized Inspectors (AI) and client TPIAs.
- Compile and finalize complete Manufacturer’s Data Reports (MDR), including Form U-1 / U-1A, weld maps, NDT records, calibration reports, and as-built dimensions.
- Support internal and external audits for ASME 'U', 'U2', and 'R' Stamp accreditation and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
