LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER (FULL STACK), ECOMMERCE

Position Summary:

As a Lead Engineer (Full Stack) at Ferguson, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable web applications, APIs, and services that power our eCommerce platform. You will provide hands-on technical leadership, guide solution design and implementation, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence while partnering with Product, UX/UI, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality business solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the design and implementation of scalable customer-facing web applications, backend services, APIs, and microservices.
- Provide technical leadership for a team or workstream, driving solution design, implementation decisions, and successful delivery of complex initiatives.
- Remain hands-on with software development, code reviews, troubleshooting,



performance optimization, and production support.
- Collaborate with Architects and Principal Engineers to implement scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions aligned with architectural standards.
- Partner with Product, UX/UI, Engineering, and Business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions and deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Mentor engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and knowledge sharing while promoting engineering best practices.
- Champion code quality, testing, security, observability, reliability, and operational excellence across the development lifecycle.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, scalability challenges, and system dependencies to ensure successful execution and platform stability.
- Drive adoption of CI/CD, DevOps, and modern software delivery practices to improve engineering productivity and deployment velocity.
- Contribute to technical planning, platform modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

- 7+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
- Strong hands-on software development experience building scalable web applications and distributed systems.
- Hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, React.js, TypeScript, and Node.js.




- Experience delivering end-to-end solutions across frontend and backend technology stacks, including customer-facing web applications.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, distributed systems, database design, caching, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Experience developing and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs.
- Experience with containerization, orchestration technologies (Kubernetes or similar), CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices across cloud and/or on-premises environments.
- Experience leading technical delivery of medium-to-large engineering initiatives and mentoring engineers within Agile development teams.
- Experience collaborating effectively with Product, UX/UI, Architecture, Engineering, and Business stakeholders.
- Experience working in a global delivery model across multiple geographies and time zones.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience building digital commerce platforms within retail, distribution, wholesale, or marketplace environments.
- Experience designing scalable multi-tenant architecture and shared platform services that support multiple businesses, brands, or channels.
- Experience with Next.js, GraphQL, and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns.
