Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Adobe InDesign Book Designer / DTP Specialist to join our publishing team.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, formatting, typesetting, and preparing educational books for printing using Adobe InDesign.

The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience working on large books of 300+ pages and should be comfortable managing long documents with consistent formatting, styles, page layouts, tables, images, exercises, worksheets, headers, footers, and page numbering.

This position is specifically for book publishing and is not a general graphic-design role.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and format school textbooks, workbooks, activity books, question banks, and other educational books.
- Work extensively with Adobe InDesign to create professional book layouts.
- Handle large documents, typically 300+ pages per book.
- Create and maintain consistent Paragraph Styles, Character Styles, Object Styles, Table Styles, and Parent/Master Pages.
- Format text, headings, tables, images, diagrams, activities, exercises, and worksheets.
- Manage page numbering, headers, footers, running heads, sections, and cross-references.
- Maintain consistent layouts and formatting across hundreds of pages.
- Import and format content from Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF, and other sources.
- Place, resize, crop, and align images appropriately.
- Fix pagination, spacing, alignment, overflow-text, and layout issues.
- Perform proofreading-related formatting corrections and implement editorial changes.
- Prepare high-quality print-ready PDFs.




- Check fonts, image resolution, margins, bleed, page size, and other print specifications.
- Work closely with editors, content developers, and the publishing/production team.
- Complete assigned books within production timelines.

Required Skills

- Strong hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign.
- Experience in book layout, DTP, typesetting, or publishing.
- Proven experience handling 300+ page books.
- Robust knowledge of InDesign Styles and long-document features.
- Good understanding of typography and page composition.
- Knowledge of Parent/Master Pages, Tables, TOC, Indexing, Cross-References, and Page Numbering.
- Knowledge of preparing print-ready PDFs.
- Good understanding of bleed, margins, fonts, image resolution, CMYK, and print specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain consistency across large documents.

Preferred Experience

Experience in educational book publishing is highly preferred.

- Be able to work independently and meet deadlines.

Important Requirement

Candidates must have actual experience creating or formatting books of 300+ pages using Adobe InDesign.

Please include samples/portfolio of books or long-form publications you have designed or formatted.

Candidates with only experience in social media design, posters, banners, logos, or general graphic design, but without substantial book-layout experience, may not be suitable for this role.

Qualifications

Any degree, diploma, or relevant certification.

Relevant experience in DTP, book publishing, typesetting, educational publishing, or InDesign-based book production will be given more importance than academic qualifications.

Candidates with strong hands-on experience in book production may be considered based on their portfolio and practical skills.
